The combustion kinetics of three symmetric diesel-boiling-range ether isomers were investigated experimentally using a plug flow reactor. The isomers were di--butyl ether (DNBE), diisobutyl ether (DIBE), and di--butyl ether (DSBE). The flow reactor experiments employed oxygen as the oxidizer and helium as the diluent, with oxidation carried out at atmospheric and elevated pressure conditions and temperatures from 400 to 1000 at 20 K intervals.

High information content building blocks offer a path toward the construction of precision materials by supporting the organization and reconfiguration of organic and inorganic components through engineered functions. Here, we combine thermoresponsiveness with biomimetic mineralization by fusing the Car9 silica-binding dodecapeptide to the C-terminus of the (VPGVG) elastin-like polypeptide (ELP). Using small angle X-ray scattering, we show that the short Car9 cationic block is sufficient to promote the conversion of disordered unimers into 30 nm micelles comprising about 150 proteins, 5 °C above the transition temperature of the ELP.

The reduced ability of the central nervous system to regenerate with increasing age limits functional recovery following demyelinating injury. Previous work has shown that myelin debris can overwhelm the metabolic capacity of microglia, thereby impeding tissue regeneration in aging, but the underlying mechanisms are unknown. In a model of demyelination, we found that a substantial number of genes that were not effectively activated in aged myeloid cells displayed epigenetic modifications associated with restricted chromatin accessibility.

While today's biomass-based diesel fuels are used at relatively low blend levels in petroleum diesel, decarbonization of the heavy-duty trucking and off-road sectors is driving increasing use of higher level blends and the combination of hydroprocessing-derived renewable diesel (RD) with biodiesel (fatty acid methyl esters) to create a 100% renewable fuel. However, little data are available on the properties of biodiesel blends over 20 vol % into RD or conventional diesel, despite the potential for properties to fall well outside the normal range for diesel fuels. Adrenal myelolipomas are benign adrenocortical tumors composed of adipose tissue mixed with hematopoietic precursor cells. An association of myelolipoma with adrenal cortical adenoma is rare and the pathogenesis of these tumors remains unclear. Aim: The aim of this study was to link the values of D-dimer and C-reactive protein (CRP), with the occurrence of pericardial effusion in patients who had coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and have preserved systolic function of the left ventricle (LV).

Methods: This was a prospective study and included 146 patients who underwent echocardiographic examination 30 days after the acute phase of COVID-19. Patients who were placed on mechanical ventilation, patients who had pulmonary thromboembolism or acute coronary syndrome during the acute period of the disease, patients who had an ejection fraction of the LV <50%, patients who were diagnosed with pericarditis during acute illness or clinical signs of heart failure (or had elevated N-terminal-pro hormone B-type natriuretic peptide value), with verified renal or hepatic dysfunction were excluded from the study, including patients with diabetes mellitus Type 1, patients with cancer, connective tissue disease, or pregnant women.

The introduction of sodium glucose transporter-2 inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists in type 2 diabetes mellitus treatment has shown an unexpectedly significant improvement in heart disease outcome trials. Although they have very different modes of action, a portion of the salutary cardiovascular disease improvement may be related to their impact on diabetic dyslipidemia. As discussed in this focused review, the sodium glucose transporter-2 inhibitors as a class show a mild increase in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels, while triglycerides (TG) decrease inconsistently.
