The biocide candidate, without metal or halogen components, was produced from a sub-product of the edible oil industry, the lecithin. Laboratory assays were conducted with phytoplankton, zooplankton, and marine bacteria to evaluate the efficiency of the biocide.

Methods: This observational, prospective, longitudinal cohort study evaluated patients with ACS who attended three private and one public cardiology reference hospitals. Information about dietary parameters during the 6 mo before the acute ACS event was collected at admission and 180 d later using a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire.
Solution blow spinning (SBS) has emerged as a rapid and scalable technique for the production of polymeric and ceramic materials into micro-/nanofibers. Here, SBS was employed to produce submicrometer fibers of regenerated silk fibroin (RSF) from Bombyx mori (silkworm) cocoons based on formic acid or aqueous systems. Spinning in the presence of vapor permitted the production of fibers from aqueous solutions, and high alignment could be obtained by modifying the SBS setup to give a concentrated channeled airflow.

This study aimed to characterize the hydroethanolic extract of red propolis (HERP) and nanoparticles containing HERP for using as an additive in the culture medium of isolated ovine preantral follicles. HERP was characterized by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and determination of flavonoid content, and the nanoparticles by the mean particle diameter, polydispersity index (PI) and encapsulation efficiency (EE). The effect of HERP (10 and 20 ηg/ml-HERP10 and HERP20 groups) and nanoparticles (NP10 and NP20 groups) on isolated secondary follicles cultured in vitro for 12 days was observed by morphological evaluation, oxidative stress markers (reactive oxygen species-ROS and glutathione-GSH) and active mitochondria.

Aims: This study aims to research the initial microbial adhesion and tissue response to an acrylic resin used in prosthodontics.
Materials And Methods: Disks of a commercial acrylic resin were prepared and included on the surface of individual intraoral splints fabricated for 50 participants.
Fatty acid (FA) composition is a determinant of the physiological effects of dietary oils. This study investigated the effects of vegetable oil supplementation with different FA compositions on anthropometric and biochemical parameters in obese women on a hypocaloric diet with lifestyle modifications. Seventy-five women (body mass index, BMI, 30⁻39.

This study investigated the effect of the heat shock protein inducer O-[3-piperidino-2-hydroxy-1-propyl]-nicotinic amidoxime (BGP-15) on the morphology and contractile function of regenerating soleus muscles from mice. Cryolesioned soleus muscles from young mice treated daily with BGP-15 (15 mg/Kg) were evaluated on post-cryolesion day 10. At this time point, there was a significant decrease in the cross-sectional area of regenerating myofibers, maximal force, specific tetanic force, and fatigue resistance of regenerating soleus muscles.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFItraconazole (ITZ) has a broad spectrum of action and is commonly used for the treatment of fungal infections. Topic administration of ITZ is a promising strategy to improve vulvovaginal candidiasis treatment, which can be further optimized by its encapsulation in nanoparticles to increase drug delivery and reduce ITZ toxicity. In this work, we designed polycaprolactone nanoparticles containing ITZ and evaluated in vivo the efficacy of this yet unexplored approach.

However, the effect of a natural ecosystem on crop health and fruit quality is poorly understood. In the present study, it was investigated whether the presence of a natural ecosystem surrounding a crop area influences banana plant health and fruit postharvest behavior.

However, during the handling process, fish receive more stress if proper anesthetics are not used. Thus, application of appropriate anesthetics is an important tool for minimizing stress in animals.

The markers (isoflavonoids, chalcones, pterocarpans, flavones, phenolic acids, terpenes and guttiferones) present in the tinctures A and B were identified and confirmed using LC/ESI/FTMS/Orbitrap. Four compositions (A, B, C and D) were prepared to contain B tincture of the red propolis with some pharmaceutical excipients and submitted to two drying processes, i.

Different concentrations (100, 250, 500, or 1,000 μg ml ) of quercetin or resveratrol, or a mixture of quercetin and resveratrol (3:1, 1:1, 1:3; vol:vol), as well as distilled water or 2% chlorhexidine digluconate, were applied to etched dentin. Then, a two-step etch-and-rinse adhesive was applied followed by composite restoration.

Several microbial species may contaminate milk during manufacture and handling. If antimicrobial usage remains uncontrolled in dairy cattle, the horizontal transfer of antimicrobial resistance genes in foodstuffs may be of particular concern for both food producers and dairy industry.

Hemodynamic responses were recorded at bilateral somatosensory (S1) and prefrontal cortices (PFCs) from 12 patients with dentin hypersensitivity in a dental chair before, during, and after clinical pain. Clinical dental pain was triggered with 20 consecutive descending cold stimulations (32° to 0°C) to the affected teeth.

Hyaluronan (MW: 1.5 MDa) was linked to a phospholipid (dipalmitoyl phosphatidylethanolamine, DPPE) by an amidification procedure to obtain novel macromolecules (HA-DPPE) able to coat liposomes. Liposomes made of dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine and cholesterol (DPPC/Chol: 95/5 molar ratio), with a mean size around 100nm, were incubated with HA-DPPE at 55°C, allowing the insertion of DPPE moieties in the liposomal bilayer and leading to hyaluronan-coated liposomes (HAsomes) as evidenced by several techniques including dynamic light scattering and differential scanning calorimetry.
