Sports participation is one of the most popular forms of physical activity among youngsters. This study aimed to examine the changes in the estimated body composition, strength, and flexibility of adolescent boys after 12 months of soccer training compared with those of age-matched controls with non-sports participation. We assessed 137 boys (62 soccer players and 75 controls) at baseline (TM1) and 12 months later (TM2).

However, their large-scale production and application are restricted by high production costs. Such costs can be reduced using renewable raw materials and facilitated downstream processing.

The constrained maximization of information entropy provides a framework for the understanding of such complex systems dynamics by a quantitative analysis of important constraints via predictions using least biased probability distributions. We apply it to over two thousand hectares of Amazonian tree inventories across seven forest types and thirteen functional traits, representing major global axes of plant strategies.

Clinical and experimental studies suggest that glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β) inhibition protects against AKI basically through its critical role in tubular epithelial cell apoptosis, inflammation and fibrosis. Treatment with a single dose of lithium, an inhibitor of GSK3β, accelerated recovery of renal function in cisplatin and ischemic/reperfusion-induced AKI models.

Here, we analyze the validity of this hypothesis for a model system by studying nucleation in a lithium silicate glass treated for very long times (up to 250 days) in deeply supercooled states, reaching 60 K below the laboratory glass transition temperature, T. At all temperatures in the considered range, T < T, we observed an enormous difference between the experimental number of nucleated crystals, N(t), and its theoretically expected value computed by assuming the metastable state of the relaxing glass has been reached.

Thus, the aim of the present study was to examine the relationship between obesity/overweight and executive functions in cognitively normal older adult women. This cross-sectional study included 224 individuals (60-80 years), stratified into normal weight (n = 45), overweight (n = 98), and obesity (n = 81).

A cross-sectional study was conducted with 407 health professionals working in four pediatric health units in the State of Bahia, northeast Brazil. The Fantastic Lifestyle Questionnaire and a questionnaire with sociodemographic and employment variables self-applied via Google Forms were used.

This study aimed to characterize the players' strength indicators and to analyze the variation associated with age, competition level, and positional role. Eighty-three male soccer players from A team ( = 22), B team ( = 17), U-23 ( = 19), and U-19 ( = 25) participated in this study.

The objective of this study was to report the occurrence of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) in dairy goats, via description of their clinical presentation, histopathological findings, and molecular identification of the infectious agent. Screening was performed using IS900 real-time PCR (qPCR) in milk samples from 179 properties in the semiarid of Northeast region of Brazil. Pooled milk samples from all lactating goats from processing plants were submitted to molecular diagnosis.

Air samples (=19) were collected in 19 restaurant terraces during lunch time. Each air sample was collected using a Coriolis Compact air sampler, followed by RNA extraction and real-time quantitative PCR for the detection of viral RNA.

Here, we show that an MHC class I epitope (SL8) sequence inserted in the second intron of the β-globin gene in a C57BL/6 mouse (HBB) generates immune tolerance. Introduction of SL8-specific CD8 T cells derived from OT-1 transgenic mice resulted in a threefold increase in OT-1 T cell proliferation in HBB animals, as compared to wild-type animals.

Background: Patellofemoral pain (PFP) is a knee pain condition with multifactorial aetiology, twice common in women. The recommended conservative treatment is based on strengthening of the core, hip, and knee musculatures. Addition of neuromuscular training to a strengthening protocol might provide further benefits on pain, function, and kinematics in PFP individuals.

A relevant step towards the proper establishment of these banks is the definition of adequate cryopreservation techniques for the conservation of the skin.
Objective: We evaluated the effects of two different techniques [direct vitrification in cryovials (DVC) and solid-surface vitrification (SSV)] for the preservation of ear skin derived from ocelot.

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a rare entity characterized by fever associated with the sudden appearance of erythematous lesions, on which multiple sterile, non-follicular pustules develop. We describe a case of a 44-year-old healthy male who developed fever and multiple erythematous and edematous lesions with progressive generalization to the entire body, associated with multiple small non-follicular pustules three days after having started flucloxacillin for the treatment of a furuncle. Considering the characteristics of the exanthema, fever, and association with aminopenicillin initiation, AGEP was considered.
