Cognitive Impairment Caused by Isolated Adrenocorticotropic Hormone Deficiency Mimicking Dementia with Lewy Bodies.

A 73-year-old man who presented with nonspecific general symptoms and cognitive impairment was initially diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment due to dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) based on a reduced blood flow in the parietal and occipital lobes on single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging. However, the patient later presented with hyponatremia and hypoglycemia, leading to impaired consciousness, and was diagnosed with isolated adrenocorticotropic hormone deficiency (IAD). Hydrocortisone treatment improved the blood test scores and general symptoms, including cognitive impairment.

Organizational factors associated with less use of restraints in older adults with dementia in acute care hospitals: A scoping review.

Objective: Dementia affects more than 55 million people worldwide. Use of restraints for hospitalized older adults with dementia is a social issue that should be addressed systematically and should not depend on the characteristics of nurses. This study reviewed the literature on organizational factors associated with reducing use of restraints in older adults with dementia admitted to acute care hospitals.

Purpose: Preoperative chemotherapy is a critical component of breast cancer management, yet its effectiveness is not uniform. Moreover, the adverse effects associated with chemotherapy necessitate the identification of a patient subgroup that would derive the maximum benefit from this treatment. This study aimed to establish a method for predicting the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer patients utilizing a metabolomic approach.

Heteropolyanions (HPAs) are known as the candidate for an anode redox mediator for redox flow polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs). The electrochemical properties of HPAs differ depending on the transition elements and heteroatoms in HPAs. For example, heteropolytungstate anions (W-HPAs), in which the transition element is tungsten, have a lower one-electron reduction potential than other HPAs.

Introduction: Osmium tetroxide is a strong oxidizing agent. After dermal exposure to osmium tetroxide, skin discoloration and red papules can occur. We describe a patient with skin discoloration due to osmium tetroxide.

Advanced lung adenocarcinoma detected by choroidal metastasis in a patient with amyopathic dermatomyositis: A case report.

A 63-year-old Japanese man with amyopathic dermatomyositis treated with immunosuppressants became aware of distortion of his left visual field, and a metastatic choroidal tumor was suspected. His chest computed tomography (CT) showed a pulmonary nodule in the right upper lobe and mediastinal lymphadenopathy, and he was diagnosed with advanced lung adenocarcinoma with choroidal metastasis. Malignancies associated with dermatomyositis (DM) are often rapidly progressive and, in choroidal metastasis associated with lung cancer, a choroidal lesion is often diagnosed prior to lung cancer; therefore, CT performed at the time of diagnosis of choroidal metastasis may show lung cancer lesions.

Background: Nipple-areola complex (NAC) necrosis, which is caused by local ischemia, remains one of the complications associated with nipple-sparing mastectomy. Obesity, smoking, diabetes mellitus, and immediate breast reconstruction have been identified as risk factors of NAC necrosis. The current study examined the correlation between NAC necrosis and nipple volume.

The most common variant in Japanese CF patients is a large heterozygous deletion that can easily avoid detection by standard gene sequencing methods. [Cystic fibrosis with focal biliary cirrhosis and portal hypertension in Japan: a case report].

A 9-year-old Japanese girl was found to have persistently elevated hepatic enzymes, chronic bronchitis, chronic sinusitis, and poor weight gain beginning at 5 months of age. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed diffuse bronchial wall thickening and peripheral bronchiectasis. Abdominal CT showed pancreatic atrophy, liver cirrhosis, a dilated splenic vein, and splenomegaly.

Insect juvenile hormone (JH) mimics (JHMs) are known to have ovicidal effects if applied to adult females or eggs. Here, we examined the effects of exogenous JHMs on embryonic development of the bean bug, . The expression profiles of JH early response genes and JH biosynthetic enzymes indicated that JH titer was low for the first 3 days of the egg stage and increased thereafter.
