CHRNE-related congenital myasthenic syndrome in Iran: Clinical and molecular insights.

Variants in the CHRNE gene can lead to a condition called congenital myasthenic syndrome (CMS), which affects the neuromuscular junction (NMJ). CHRNE mutations are the most common cause of CMS. Seventy-seven patients with a possible diagnosis of CMS were referred to the neuromuscular clinic of Shariati Hospital affiliated with the Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

DOK7 congenital myasthenic syndrome: case series and review of literature.

Background: Congenital myasthenic syndromes (CMS) are among the most challenging differential diagnoses in the neuromuscular domain, consisting of diverse genotypes and phenotypes. A mutation in the Docking Protein 7 (Dok-7) is a common cause of CMS. DOK7 CMS requires different treatment than other CMS types.

Functional plasticity of glutamatergic neurons of medullary reticular nuclei after spinal cord injury in mice.

Spinal cord injury disrupts the descending command from the brain and causes a range of motor deficits. Here, we use optogenetic tools to investigate the functional plasticity of the glutamatergic reticulospinal drive of the medullary reticular formation after a lateral thoracic hemisection in female mice. Sites evoking stronger excitatory descending drive in intact conditions are the most impaired after injury, whereas those associated with a weaker drive are potentiated.

Efficacy of topical curcumin on mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome: a randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial.

Objectives: Recently, there has been a renewed interest in traditional medicine for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Curcumin has been reported as an agent with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and neuroprotective attributes. This study is one of the first investigations to assess the effect of curcumin gel on CTS.

Background: Sleep quality is defined as an individual's consent to sleep experience. Poor sleep quality has important adverse health outcomes. There are drugs to treat sleep disorders but consumption of these drugs is accompanied by adverse effects whereas herbal treatments have fewer side effects.

Effect of nanomicelle curcumin-based photodynamic therapy on the dynamics of white spot lesions and virulence of Streptococcus mutans in patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment: A randomized double-blind clinical trial.

Background/purpose: The formation of white spot lesions (WSLs) around fixed orthodontic appliances is a major complication during treatment. The current double-blind, randomized clinical trial (RCT) study aims to investigate the varying effects of nanomicelle curcumin-based photodynamic therapy (NMCur-aPDT) on microbial count and virulence of Streptococcus mutans as well as the number and dynamics of WSLs.

Materials And Methods: Double-blind prospective RCT, comprised of 48 patients with fixed orthodontic appliances, were recruited for the current study.

Ex-vivo effects of propolis quantum dots-nisin-nanoquercetin-mediated photodynamic therapy on Streptococcus mutans biofilms and white spot lesions.

Background: White spot lesions (WSLs) remain one of the most critical adverse sequelae of fixed orthodontic treatment, despite materials and techniques advances in orthodontics. WSLs seem to be a multi-factorial interaction including increased microbial plaque due to intrabuccal appliances that limit the oral-cleansing mechanism and change in the oral microbiome during fixed appliance wear. The aim of this study was to investigate the synergistic effect of propolis quantum dots (PQD), nisin (Nis), and quercetin nanoparticles (nQCT)-mediated photodynamic therapy (PQD-Nis-nQCT-mediated aPDT) in the eradication of Streptococcus mutans biofilms and the remineralization of WSLs ex-vivo.

Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis and infertility: A case report.

Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) is a lipid storage disorder that causes neurological, ophthalmic, vascular, and musculoskeletal disorders due to the deposition of cholesterol in the tissues. Hence, we report clinical and imaging of a 31-year-old mentally retarded man with cerebellar ataxia, bilateral swelling of the posterior aspect of Achill, and infertility.

Clinical features and outcomes of patients with myasthenia gravis affected by COVID-19: A single-center study.

Introduction: Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disorder that can exacerbate for various reasons including infections. In this study, we describe clinical symptoms, outcomes, and management of MG patients affected by COVID-19 infection.

Methods: This observational retrospective study was performed on patients previously diagnosed as MG, presenting with COVID-19 in the clinic or emergency department between April 2020 and August 2021.

A retrospective study of the safety and efficacy of rituximab in Iranian patients with myasthenia gravis: A single-center experience.

This retrospective cohort study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and tolerance of rituximab (RTX) for the management of myasthenia gravis (MG). This retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted on 61 patients with refractory and non-refractory MG who received RTX. The Myasthenia Gravis Activities of Daily Living (MG-ADL) profile was used to assess MG symptoms and their effects on daily activities at the start of RTX and in the last follow-up.

Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) leads to vascular dementia with progressive hippocampal damage and cognitive impairments. In the present , we compared early and late Minocycline (MINO) treatment on cognitive function, long and short-term synaptic-plasticity following CCH. We used bilateral common carotid arteries occlusion model (2VO) for induction of hypoperfusion.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome and COVID-19 Vaccine: A Report of Nine Patients.

Introduction: Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy usually elicited by an upper respiratory tract infection. Several studies reported GBS associated with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. In this study, we described nine GBS patients following the COVID-19 vaccine.

Validation of myasthenia gravis activity of daily living questionnaire: Persian version.

The 8-item myasthenia gravis activity of daily living (MG-ADL) questionnaire is a valid and reliable instrument for evaluating myasthenia gravis (MG)-associated disability. This study aims to assess its validity and reliability in the Iranian population. A total number of 58 patients with MG were qualified for the examination.

Introduction: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a prominent compressive neuropathy. There are a number of risk factors for creating CTS but the effect of these factors on the severity of CTS is unclear. In this study, we aimed to assess the correlation of serum lipid profile and obesity with the severity of CTS.

In this study, we evaluated the effects of 2.45 GHz microwave radiation on cognitive dysfunction induced by vascular dementia (VaD). The VaD was induced by bilateral-common carotid occlusion (2-VO).

Paroxysmal Tonic Spasm in a Patient with the Sudden Zolpidem Withdrawal: A Case Report.

Zolpidem is an imidazopyridine derivative and a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic drug. There are several case reports of zolpidem abuse or dependence and zolpidem withdrawal. This study reports a case of paroxysmal tonic spasm (PTS) after abrupt withdrawal of high dose zolpidem.

Stroke risk, phenotypes, and death in COVID-19: Systematic review and newly reported cases.

Objectives: To investigate the hypothesis that strokes occurring in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have distinctive features, we investigated stroke risk, clinical phenotypes, and outcomes in this population.

Methods: We performed a systematic search resulting in 10 studies reporting stroke frequency among patients with COVID-19, which were pooled with 1 unpublished series from Canada. We applied random-effects meta-analyses to estimate the proportion of stroke among COVID-19.
