Detecting breast tumor markers with a fast turnaround time from frozen sections should foster intraoperative histopathology in breast-conserving surgery, reducing the need for a second operation. Hence, rapid label-free discrimination of the spatially resolved molecular makeup between cancer and adjacent normal breast tissue is of growing importance. We performed desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry imaging (DESI-MSI) of fresh-frozen excision specimens, including cancer and paired adjacent normal sections, obtained from the lumpectomy of 73 breast cancer patients.

Purpose Of The Study: Renal mass lesions in majority of the cases are due to malignant etiology and about one-third of them are reported with metastatic lesions at the time of presentation. Thus proper investigational workup is needed for staging and thereby treatment planning. The current fluorine18 fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (F18-FDG PET/CT) study was designed to characterize renal mass lesions metabolically and identifying other metabolically active lesions in the body suggesting metastatic disease.

Article Synopsis
  • Breast carcinoma is a common cancer in women, linked to obesity and chronic inflammation, with oxidative stress (OS) playing a potential role in its development.
  • A study involving 30 breast cancer patients and 30 healthy controls examined oxidative and antioxidant markers, finding that breast cancer patients had elevated OS markers and reduced antioxidant levels.
  • The results indicated that while oxidative stress increases in breast cancer patients, it doesn't correlate with obesity levels, suggesting that OS is more closely related to breast cancer itself rather than adiposity.

Context: In India, breast conservation rates vary anywhere from 11 to 34%. This is in contrast to western world where breast conservation rates exceed 70% for early breast cancer.

Aims: The present study was conducted to analyze the results of breast conservation surgery (BCS) at our institute and compare with that of other facilities in world.

Context: The pattern of nodal spread in oral cancers is largely predictable and treatment of neck can be tailored with this knowledge. Most studies available on the pattern are from the western world and for early cancers of the tongue and floor of the mouth.

Aims: The present study was aimed to evaluate the prevalence and pattern of nodal metastasis in patients with pathologic T4 (pT4) buccal/alveolar cancers.
