Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has a wide range of uses in bioimaging and nondestructive testing. Larger bandwidth light sources have recently been implemented to enhance measurement resolution. Increased bandwidth has a negative impact on spectral nonlinearity in k space, notably in the case of spectral domain OCT (SD-OCT).

Germanium Antimony Bonding in BaGeSbTe with Low Thermal Conductivity.

A new quaternary telluride, BaGeSbTe, was synthesized at high temperature via the reaction of elements. A single-crystal X-ray diffraction study shows that the title compound crystallizes in its own structure type in the monoclinic 2/ space group having cell dimensions of = 13.984(3) Å, = 13.

Design and Optimization of a Linear Wavenumber Spectrometer with Cylindrical Optics for Line Scanning Optical Coherence Tomography.

We report the design of a high-efficiency spectral-domain spectrometer with cylindrical optics for line scanning optical coherence tomography (OCT). The spectral nonlinearity in k space (wavenumber) lowers the depth-dependent signal sensitivity of the spectrometers. For linearizing, in this design, grating and prism have been introduced.

BaLnMnTe (Ln = Pr, Gd, and Yb; x = Ln vacancy): syntheses, crystal structures, optical, resistivity, and electronic structure.

Three new isostructural quaternary tellurides, BaLnMnTe (Ln = Pr, Gd, and Yb), have been synthesized by the molten-flux method at 1273 K. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies at 298(2) K showed that BaLnMnTe crystallize in the space group -C2/m of the monoclinic crystal system. There are six unique crystallographic sites in this structure's asymmetric unit: one Ba site, one Ln site, one Mn site, and three Te sites.

Drop-on-demand cell bioprinting via Laser Induced Side Transfer (LIST).

We introduced and validated a drop-on-demand method to print cells. The method uses low energy nanosecond laser (wavelength: 532 nm) pulses to generate a transient microbubble at the distal end of a glass microcapillary supplied with bio-ink. Microbubble expansion results in the ejection of a cell-containing micro-jet perpendicular to the irradiation axis, a method we coined Laser Induced Side Transfer (LIST).

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the palate: A rare case report.

Mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MECs) of minor salivary gland origin are rare in children and adolescents and have been reported rarely. Literature regarding their clinical features and biologic behavior is scanty. The purpose of this case report is to discuss the clinical manifestation, diagnosis, and treatment plan of MEC of the palate.

Reasons why patients fail screening in Indian breast cancer trials.

Introduction: An increased number of screen failure patients in a clinical trial increases time and cost required for the recruitment. Assessment of reasons for screen failure can help reduce screen failure rates and improve recruitment.

Materials And Methods: We collected retrospective data of human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER2) positive Indian breast cancer patients, who failed screening for phase 3 clinical trials and ascertained their reasons for screen failure from screening logs.

Comparative evaluation of salivary soluble CD44 levels in periodontal health and disease.

Context: Inflammation, immunoactivation, and malignant diseases are associated with increased plasma levels of soluble CD44 (sCD44). Serum sCD44 has been recognized as a diagnostic marker in smoking-induced diseases.

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of aqueous extract of stem of Tinospora cordifolia (TC) on hyperalgesia in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats and in- vitro aldose reductase inhibition.

Materials And Methods: Wistar albino rats, rendered diabetic with streptozotocin, were divided into 5 groups, namely the diabetic control treated with vehicle (DC), standard control which received glibenclamide+metformin (SC), test groups treated with 100, 200and 400 mg/kg b.w.

US food and drug administration Indian site inspections: An experience.

Since 2005, USFDA has begun inspections of Indian clinical trial investigator sites. This paper reports experience of an FDA inspection performed at two Indian centers. The inspection started with an in-depth discussion with the investigator and his team about the conduct of the clinical trial at the site and was followed by a tour of the important locations - registration, outpatient department, specialty clinic, medical record section, and special procedure department.

Optimized off-axis cylindrical mirror-focused line-scanning system for optical coherence tomography imaging applications.

The parameters of an off-axis cylindrical mirror-focused line-scanning system were studied to optimize the flatness of the 2 mm scan field. The scanning system parameters included the beam size, the distance between the scanning and the focusing mirror, the angle between the incident beam and the reflected beam, the optical scan angle, and the effective focal length of the cylindrical mirror. Because of the off-axis line-scanning system configuration, the scanning could be carried out either in the tangential (Y-scan) or in the sagittal (X-scan) plane.

Right ventricular function in children with severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) bronchiolitis.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated the development of myocardial damage and hepatitis in children with severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. The aim of this study was to assess right ventricular function in children with severe RSV disease and to investigate an association with disease severity, myocardial damage, and hepatitis.

Methods: This was a prospective observational study performed at a 20-bed regional multidisciplinary tertiary pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) in a university-affiliated children's hospital.
