The clinical approach to managing high-grade arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) has been challenging due to its various presentations, surgical risk of complications, and impact on patients' quality of life. We report a case of a 57-year-old female who experienced recurrent seizures and progressive cognitive decline secondary to a grade 5 cerebellar AVM. We reviewed the patient's presentation and clinical course.

There is paucity of data with regards to clinical profile and outcome of children with infantile-onset IBD from India. The clinicolaboratory profile, molecular genetic testing and treatment details of 8 children diagnosed with monogenic infantile-onset IBD during 2015-2020 is described here.

However, lately, liquid mosquito repellent ingestion is emerging as an important cause of hydrocarbon (kerosene) poisoning in urban households.
Methods: This is a retrospective case series over a 5-y period (January 2013 - December 2017) of children with accidental liquid mosquito repellent ingestion presenting to the pediatric emergency.

Chitosan is a biopolymer obtained by deacetylation of chitin and has been proven to have various applications in industry and biomedicine. Deacetylation of chitin using the enzyme chitin deacetylase (CDA) is favorable in comparison to the hazardous chemical method involving strong alkali and high temperature. A fungal strain producing CDA was isolated from environmental samples collected from coastal regions of South Kerala, India.

After cellulose, chitin is the second most abundant organic and renewable polysaccharide in nature. This polymer is degraded by enzymes called chitinases which are a part of the glycoside hydrolase family. Chitinases have many important biophysiological functions and immense potential applications especially in control of phytopathogens, production of chito- oligosaccharides with numerous uses and in treatment and degradation of chitinous biowaste.

Procedure: The cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2011 to June 2012 in a pediatric oncology unit.
We demonstrate broadband all-optical modulation in low loss hydrogenated-amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) waveguides. Significant modulation (approximately 3 dB) occurs with a device of only 15 microm without the need for cavity interference effects in stark contrast to an identical crystalline silicon waveguide. We attribute the enhanced modulation to the significantly larger free-carrier absorption effect of a-Si:H, estimated here to be alpha = 1.

By independently modulating two symmetric microring resonators arranged in a Mach-Zehnder configuration, we realize the generation of three levels. The proposed scheme can be extended to any number of logic levels, which effectively increases the data rate of an optical link using slower modulators.
