Breast cancer (BC) is a substantial reason for cancer-related mortality among women across the globe. Anastrozole (ANS) is an effective orally administered hormonal therapy for oestrogen-positive (ER+) BC treatment. However, several side effects and pharmacokinetic limitations restricted the uses of ANS in BC therapy.

Background: Balancing autonomy and supervision during medical residency is important for trainee development while ensuring patient safety. In the increasingly complex inpatient clinical learning environment, tension exists when this balance is skewed. In this study, we aimed to understand current and ideal states of autonomy and supervision and then describe factors that contribute to imbalance from both trainee and attending perspectives.

Reducing methane (CH) emissions from agriculture, among other sectors, is a key step to reducing global warming. There are many strategies to reduce CH emissions in ruminant animals, including genetic selection, which yields cumulative and permanent genetic gains over generations. A single-step genomic evaluation for methane efficiency (MEF) was officially implemented in April 2023 for the Canadian Holstein breed, aiming to reduce CH emissions without affecting production levels.

Background: Case tracking (following-up prior patient encounters) can help inform future clinical decisions and supplement experiential learning. Internal medicine subspecialty fellows see a high volume of patients and need to become subject matter experts within a short time frame, yet little is known about their specific needs and motivations around case tracking.

Objective: The objective of this study was to explore internal medicine subspecialty fellows' motivations, preferences, and practices around case tracking.

Article Synopsis
  • - Responsive neurostimulation (RNS) is an option for treating refractory epilepsy when surgery isn't viable, and this study explored using non-invasive methods like transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and magnetoencephalography (MEG) for presurgical evaluations instead of invasive techniques.
  • - The study reviewed nine patients who underwent RNS placement, finding that MEG successfully characterized the irritative zone in eight patients, while TMS successfully mapped eloquent cortex areas in eight out of nine patients.
  • - The results indicated that patients evaluated with non-invasive methods saw an average seizure reduction of 77%, similar to the 75% experienced by those evaluated invasively, suggesting that TMS and MEG are promising alternatives for optimizing R

The oriental fruit fly, (Hendel), is a significant economic and quarantine pest due to its polyphagous nature. The accurate identification of is challenging at the egg, maggot, and pupal stages, due to lack of distinct morphological characters and its similarity to other fruit flies. Adult identification requires specialized taxonomist.

Colorectal cancer, the third most prevalent cancer globally, contributes significantly to mortality rates, with over 1.9 million reported cases and nearly 935,000 fatalities annually. Surgical resection is a primary approach for localized colorectal tumors, with adjunct therapies like chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and targeted/immunotherapy considered depending on the tumor stage.

Cardiovascular disease is a significant and ever-growing concern, causing high morbidity and mortality worldwide. Conventional therapy is often very precarious and requires long-term usage. Several phytochemicals, including Resveratrol (RSV) and Piperine (PIP), possess significant cardioprotection and may be restrained in clinical settings due to inadequate pharmacokinetic properties.

Background And Aims: Improving the care of decompensated cirrhosis is a significant clinical challenge. The primary aim of this trial was to assess the efficacy of a chronic disease management (CDM) model to reduce liver-related emergency admissions (LREA). The secondary aims were to assess model effects on quality-of-care and patient-reported outcomes.

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of copy number variants (CNV) on 13 reproduction and 12 disease traits in Holstein cattle. Intensity signal files containing log R ratio and B allele frequency information from 13,730 Holstein animals genotyped with a 95K SNP panel, and 8,467 Holstein animals genotyped with a 50K SNP panel were used to identify the CNVs. Subsequently, the identified CNVs were validated using whole-genome sequence data from 126 animals, resulting in 870 high-confidence copy number variant regions (CNVR) on 12,131 animals.

Determination of language hemispheric dominance (HD) in patients undergoing evaluation for epilepsy surgery has traditionally relied on the sodium amobarbital (Wada) test. The emergence of non-invasive methods for determining language laterality has increasingly shown to be a viable alternative. In this study, we assessed the efficacy of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and magnetoencephalography (MEG), compared to the Wada test, in determining language HD in a sample of 12 patients.

Non-invasive methods such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and magnetoencephalography (MEG) aid in the pre-surgical evaluation of patients with epilepsy or brain tumor to identify sensorimotor cortices. MEG requires sedation in children or patients with developmental delay. However, TMS can be applied to awake patients of all ages with any cognitive abilities.

Background And Aim: Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis is a significant cause of healthcare utilization and patient morbidity and mortality worldwide. Smartphone applications have high uptake in most communities and therefore have great potential to provide remote support solutions to this patient population. The aim of this scoping review was therefore to provide a comprehensive overview using narrative synthesis on the use of smartphone-application-based digital interventions in cirrhotic populations.

Blood cancer, also known as hematological malignancy, is one of the devastating types of cancer that has significantly paved its mortality mark globally. It persists as an extremely deadly cancer type and needs utmost attention owing to its negligible overall survival rate. Major challenges in the treatment of blood cancer include difficulties in early diagnosis, as well as severe side effects resulting from chemotherapy.

A gelatin-based hydrogel system is a stimulus-responsive, biocompatible, and biodegradable polymeric system with solid-like rheology that entangles moisture in its porous network that gradually protrudes to assemble a hierarchical crosslinked arrangement. The hydrolysis of collagen directs gelatin construction, which retains arginyl glycyl aspartic acid and matrix metalloproteinase-sensitive degeneration sites, further confining access to chemicals entangled within the gel (e.g.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is becoming increasingly prevalent worldwide, especially in people with obesity, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and metabolic syndrome. Weight loss and dietary modifications are established first-line treatments for NAFLD. Currently, there is no approved drug for NAFLD; however, pioglitazone and vitamin E have shown some beneficial effects.
