KNOWLEDGE AND PREDICTORS OF IMPLEMENTATION OF STANDARD PRECAUTIONS FOR INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL AMONG HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONERS.

Background: Infection prevention and control involve health care practitioners, who are saddled with the duty of ensuring implementation of standard preventive measures to prevent healthcare associated infections.

Objectives: To assess the knowledge and predictors of implementation of standard precautions for infection prevention and control among health care practitioners (HCPs).

Material And Method: A questionnaire-based cross-sectional design was employed in assessing HCPs in Uganda in from April - October 2023.

However, within a monolayer, cells can be contractile or extensile based on the direction of pushing or pulling forces exerted by their neighbours or on the substrate. It has been shown that a monolayer of fibroblasts behaves as a contractile system while epithelial or neural progentior monolayers behave as an extensile system.

The role of single cell mechanical behavior and polarity in driving collective cell migration.

The directed migration of cell collectives is essential in various physiological processes, such as epiboly, intestinal epithelial turnover, and convergent extension during morphogenesis as well as during pathological events like wound healing and cancer metastasis. Collective cell migration leads to the emergence of coordinated movements over multiple cells. Our current understanding emphasizes that these movements are mainly driven by large-scale transmission of signals through adherens junctions.

Study of Nickel Levels in Patients with Atrial Septal Defect Undergoing Amplatzer Device Closure.

Unlabelled: Transcatheter closure of atrial septal defects (ASDs) using nickel titanium Naval Ordnance Laboratory (Nitinol)-containing devices (Amplatzer, AGA Medical, Golden Valley, Minnetosa) is being widely practiced. Controversies still exist regarding the release of nickel from these devices and the allergy and other ill effects of nickel and also the duration of antiplatelet therapy to aid endothelization of the device.

Objective: To study the nickel levels in patients who underwent ASD closure with platinum-coated Nitinol-containing Amplatzer septal occluder.

Keratinocytes are mechanoresponsive to the microflow-induced shear stress.

Here, we have reported that keratinocytes respond to the microflow-induced shear stress both at the collective and individual cell level. Using a microfluidic setup, we categorically showed that low shear stress of magnitude 0.06 dyne/cm could induce morphological variation and cytoskeletal reorganization in keratinocyte, whereas higher shear stress (6 dyne/cm ) resulted in cellular disruption.

Remineralization Potential of Three Different Dentifrices using Raman Spectroscopy and Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope.

The aim of this study was to compare the remineralization potential of three different dentifrices using Raman spectroscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). Totally, 30 extracted intact impacted third molar teeth were selected and the crown of each tooth in a group was separated from the root and longitudinally sectioned into four parts with each section under a subgroup, of which one section was an untreated section, the second and the third sections were demineralized in a demineralizing solution, and the third section was remineralized after demineralization. The teeth in the three groups were demineralized for 4 days and then treated with 0.

Knowledge, attitude, and practice toward cervical cancer among women attending Obstetrics and Gynecology Department: A cross-sectional, hospital-based survey in South India.

Introduction: Cervical cancer-related deaths among women in India are often due to late diagnosis of disease. Knowledge about disease and early screening is the most effective measure for cervical cancer prevention. Isolated Hypoplasia of Left Pulmonary Artery with Agenesis of Left Lobe of Thyroid: A Case Report.

Isolated Unilateral hypoplasia or agenesis of a branch of pulmonary artery is very rare. It is usually seen associated with congenital heart diseases such as tetralogy of Fallot, atrial septal defect, coarctation of the aorta, right aortic arch, truncus arteriosus, patent ductus arteriosus and pulmonary atresia. It occurs as a result of lack of embryological development of either the left or right sixth aortic arch and has been found to present itself with various clinical manifestations as during childhood it presents as contralateral pulmonary hypertension and in adults as haemoptysis.

Plasmacytoma of tonsil diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration cytology.

Extramedullary plasmacytoma of tonsil is rare. Even though biopsy is necessary for final diagnosis, fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) can provide useful information in the management of such cases. We report a case of plasmacytoma of tonsil diagnosed by FNAC in a 43-year-old man who presented with a swelling in the right tonsillar area.

Foreign body ear is a common problem. When it is impacted it can tax the resorces of each of us. An attempt is made in this paper to make a customable foreign body removal hook using a lumbar puncture needle.

Oral facial digital syndrome.

We report a female infant with features suggestive of Oral Facial Digital Syndrome (OFDS) Type I and associated cerebellar anomalies with Dandy-Walker malformation which suggest OFDS Type VI. The phenotypic overlap in this child OFDS type I and TypeVI raises the question as to whether they represent separate genetic entities. This pattern of abnormalities appears to be unique.
