Prompt ophthalmology evaluation and immediate imatinib suspension should be suggested at any time of tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy in patients with visual deficit, as it may be a clinical manifestation of optic disk edema, and suspension may help in prompt recovery.

Acquired haemophilia in cancer: A systematic and critical literature review.

Aim: There is a paucity of data on the clinical presentation and management of cancer patients with acquired haemophilia (AH), we here report a systematic literature review on acquired haemophilia in the context of cancer.

Methods: Treatment outcomes of AH were defined as complete response (CR), partial response (PR) or no response (NR), based on inhibitor eradication, coagulation factor VIII levels and bleeding control. Reported deaths were either related to cancer or bleeding.

The progressive improvement of lymphoma therapies has led to a significant prolongation of patient survival and life expectancy. However, lymphoma survivors are at high risk of experiencing a range of early and late adverse effects associated with the extent of treatment exposure. Among these, second malignancies and cardiopulmonary diseases can be fatal, and neurocognitive dysfunction, endocrinopathy, muscle atrophy, and persistent fatigue can affect patients' quality of life for decades after treatment.

Minimal disease activity in patients with psoriatic arthritis treated with ustekinumab: results from a 24-week real-world study.

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory joint disease affecting around 40% of psoriasis patients. Minimal disease activity (MDA) criteria have been proposed to identify a state of low disease activity, one of the principal goals of treatment for psoriatic disease. This study investigated treatment with ustekinumab (UST) in the context of a real-world setting.

A novel CXCR4-targeted near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe (Peptide R-NIR750) specifically detects CXCR4 expressing tumors.

C-X-C chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) is over-expressed in multiple human cancers and correlates with tumor aggressiveness, poor prognosis and increased risk for distant metastases. Imaging agents for CXCR4 are thus highly desirable. We developed a novel CXCR4-targeted near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe (Peptide R-NIR750) conjugating the new developed CXCR4 peptidic antagonist Peptide R with the NIR fluorescent dye VivoTag-S750.

Millstone: software for multiplex microbial genome analysis and engineering.

Inexpensive DNA sequencing and advances in genome editing have made computational analysis a major rate-limiting step in adaptive laboratory evolution and microbial genome engineering. We describe Millstone, a web-based platform that automates genotype comparison and visualization for projects with up to hundreds of genomic samples. To enable iterative genome engineering, Millstone allows users to design oligonucleotide libraries and create successive versions of reference genomes.

Melanoma frequency among symmetrical Spitzoid-looking lesions: a retrospective study.

Background: Many efforts have been spent attempting to define clinical, histopathological and molecular markers for differential diagnosis of Spitz nevus and melanoma. Dermoscopy has been widely used but it may be not always sufficient.

Methods: A retrospective study was performed evaluating Spitzoid-looking lesions showing symmetry at clinical and dermoscopic examination in patients ≥12 years attending our Clinic from 2004 to 2014.

Skin diseases and tattoos: a five-year experience.

Background: Decorative tattooing as a body art form underwent an exponential increase during the last two decades, particularly among teenagers and young adults. Consequently, the number of reported adverse reactions after tattooing has increased. The most frequent reported skin reactions to tattoo include infectious (bacterial, viral, fungal) or inflammatory (allergic contact dermatitis and granulomatous reaction) diseases.

Hidradenitis suppurativa: from pathogenesis to diagnosis and treatment.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease primarily affecting apocrine gland-rich areas of the body and presenting with painful nodules, abscesses, sinus tracts, and scarring. HS is a multifactorial disease in which genetic and environmental factors play a key role. The primary defect in HS pathophysiology involves follicular occlusion of the folliculopilosebaceous unit, followed by follicular rupture, and immune responses (perifollicular lympho-histiocytic inflammation), finally leading to the development of clinical HS lesions.

Colonic inflammation in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease: detection with magnetic resonance enterography.

Background: Colonic involvement in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease is common. Magnetic resonance (MR) enterography is considered the best imaging modality for pediatric inflammatory bowel disease evaluation. It is unclear whether the lack of a dedicated large bowel preparation prevents a reliable colonic assessment.

Psoriasis and high school students: an educational approach.

Background: To date, no study evaluating the knowledge of psoriasis among high school students has been conducted. Thus, we aimed to examine the awareness of such disease among teenagers as well as the possible changes in both the perception of psoriasis and comprehension level after an interactive lesson.

Methods: A school-based survey was conducted in March 2016 on 300 high school students aged 14-18 years.

Factor VII deficiency is the most common among rare inherited autosomal recessive bleeding disorders, and is a chameleon disease due to the lack of a direct correlation between plasma levels of coagulation Factor VII and bleeding manifestations. Clinical phenotypes range from asymptomatic condition-even in homozygous subjects-to severe life-threatening bleedings (central nervous system, gastrointestinal bleeding). Prediction of bleeding risk is thus based on multiple parameters that challenge disease management.

Cell development is regulated by a complex network of mRNA-encoded proteins and microRNAs, all funnelling onto the modulation of self-renewal or differentiation genes. How intragenic microRNAs and their host genes are transcriptionally coregulated and their functional relationships for the control of neural stem cells (NSCs) are poorly understood. We propose here the intragenic miR-326 and its host gene -arrestin1 as novel players whose epigenetic silencing maintains stemness in normal cerebellar stem cells.

Waste exposure and skin diseases.

Background: Waste is a composite mixture of different substances including endotoxins, organic dust and bio-aerosol stuffed with micro-organisms, and various toxic organic and inorganic chemicals, which may be intrinsically hazardous to human health. Therefore, health risks may derive from direct or indirect contact with garbage.

Evidence Acquisition: We searched for English-language literature describing the relationships between garbage and skin diseases in order to provide a state-of-the-art review on what is currently known about waste exposure effects on skin health.

Vitamin D and its role in psoriasis: An overview of the dermatologist and nutritionist.

Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease. Psoriasis lesions are characterized by hyper-proliferation of epidermal keratinocytes associated with inflammatory cellular infiltrate in both dermis and epidermis. The epidermis is the natural source of vitamin D synthesis by sunlight action.

CXCR4-CXCL12-CXCR7, TLR2-TLR4, and PD-1/PD-L1 in colorectal cancer liver metastases from neoadjuvant-treated patients.

A neoadjuvant clinical trial was previously conducted in patients with resectable colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM). At a median follow up of 28 months, 20/33 patients were dead of disease, 8 were alive with disease and 5 were alive with no evidence of disease. To shed further insight into biological features accounting for different outcomes, the expression of CXCR4-CXCL12-CXCR7, TLR2-TLR4, and the programmed death receptor-1 (PD-1)/programmed death-1 ligand (PD-L1) was evaluated in excised liver metastases.
