[Current Status of Prostate Cancer and Its Relation to Home Medical Care].

Because ofboth the indolent and aggressive nature ofprostate cancers, it is not easy to select the best treatment for patients receiving home medical care who already have many diseases. Since the growth ofprostate cancer is generally slow and all treatments adversely affect the quality of life to some degree, conservative treatment may well be the best option for these patients with prostate cancer. However, it is also true that we often encounter home medical care patients with a locally advanced cancer who had symptoms such as difficulty to urine, macrohematuria and/or lumbago.

A nationwide surveillance of surgical site infection after mid-urethral slings in Japan.

We performed a questionnaire-based, retrospective, nationwide survey on perioperative management and antimicrobial prophylaxis for mid-urethral sling surgery for stress urinary incontinence in Japan to realize the clinical practice and risk factors for SSI. Records of women receiving transobturator tape (TOT) and tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) surgeries from 2010 to 2012 were obtained from hospitals belonging to the Japanese Society of Pelvic Organ Prolapse Surgery. The questionnaire addressed hospital volume, perioperative management, and SSI.

Prostate-specific antigen screening impacts on biochemical recurrence in patients with clinically localized prostate cancer.

Objective: To clarify the impact of prostate-specific antigen screening on surgical outcomes of prostate cancer.

Methods: Patients who underwent radical prostatectomy were divided into two groups according to prostate-specific antigen testing opportunity (group 1, prostate-specific antigen screening; group 2, non-prostate-specific antigen screening). Perioperative clinical characteristics were compared using the Wilcoxon rank-sum and χ -tests.

Risk factors for surgical site infection after transvaginal mesh placement in a nationwide Japanese cohort.

Aims: We conducted a nationwide survey on perioperative management and antimicrobial prophylaxis of transvaginal mesh surgeries for pelvic organ prolapse in Japan to understand the practice and risk factors for surgical site infection (SSI).

Methods: Health records of women undergoing tension-free vaginal mesh (TVM) surgeries from 2010 to 2012 were obtained from 135 medical centers belonging to the Japanese Society of Pelvic Organ Prolapse Surgery. The questionnaire addressed hospital volume, perioperative management, and SSI.

A case of bladder-inverted papilloma after brachytherapy for prostate cancer.

An 82-year-old male who presented with the chief complaint of gross hematuria and a history of prostate cancer treated with brachytherapy 6 years previously is described. Cystoscopy revealed multiple bladder tumors on the right posterior wall. A transurethral resection of the bladder tumor was performed and a pathological diagnosis of the inverted papilloma was made.

A case of bladder cancer after radiation therapy for prostate cancer.

An 86-year-old male who presented with the chief complaint of clot retention and had a history of prostate cancer treated with external beam radiation therapy 11 years previously is described. Cystoscopy revealed radiation cystitis in coexistence with bladder cancer. Since bladder cancer may be present in patients with macroscopic hematuria who have a history of radiation therapy, referral to an urologist is recommended.
