Sequencing-based study of neural induction of human dental pulp stem cells.

Techniques for triggering neural differentiation of embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells into neural stem cells and neurons have been established. However, neural induction of mesenchymal stem cells, including dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs), has been assessed primarily based on neural-related gene regulation, and detailed studies into the characteristics and differentiation status of cells are lacking. Therefore, this study was aimed at evaluating the cellular components and differentiation pathways of neural lineage cells obtained via neural induction of human DPSCs.

Epstein-Barr Virus-Positive Mucocutaneous Ulcer With Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw Arising in the Mandible of a Rheumatoid Arthritis Patient: A Case Report.

This study presents a rare case of an Epstein-Barr virus-positive mucocutaneous ulcer (EBVMCU) co-existing with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in the mandible of a 54-year-old Japanese man who complained of painful swelling of the left mandibular gingiva over the past three months. The patient had a history of methotrexate (MTX) and bisphosphonates (BPs) use. Intraoral examination revealed a 35 mm large ulcerative lesion with marginal gingival swelling and bone exposure on the left side of the mandible.

This study aimed to investigate the ability of perioperative oral management (POM) to reduce the risk of SSI in abdominal surgery Real-world data collected from 16 university hospitals in Japan were reviewed. The medical records of consecutive 2782 patients (1750 men and 1032 women) who underwent abdominal surgery under general anesthesia at 16 university hospitals were retrospectively reviewed.

Antioxidative Self-Assembling Nanoparticles Attenuate the Development of Steatohepatitis and Inhibit Hepatocarcinogenesis in Mice.

Oxidative stress (OS) contributes to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and hepatocarcinogenesis. We investigated whether antioxidative self-assembling nanoparticles (SMAPoTN) could reduce the development of NASH and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in p62/Sqstm1 and Nrf2 double knockout (DKO) mice and studied protective mechanisms. We measured disease development in male DKO mice fed a normal chow (NASH model) or a 60% high-fat diet (HFD; HCC model) with or without SMAPoTN administration for 26 weeks.

The purpose of this study was to identify miRNAs associated with carcinoma function in OSCC and to investigate the potential role of the specific miRNAs. First, a comprehensive microarray analysis was performed, and miR-142-5p was identified as a candidate miRNA involved in OSCC.

Pulmonary Nodule in a Patient with Oral and Lung Cancer: Cryptococcus Infection.

Pulmonary nodules are frequently considered to be a metastatic disease or primary lung tumors in oral cancer patients. We present a case of pulmonary cryptococcosis in a 68-year-old man with oral and lung cancer. This lung cancer was treated with thoracoscopic resection of the right inferior lobe and mediastinal lymph node dissection.

Is Lymph Node Ratio a Prognostic Factor for Patients With Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma?

Purpose: Lymph node ratio (LNR), defined as the ratio of positive resected lymph nodes (LNs) to the total number of resected LNs, predicts survival for some solid tumors. This study investigated the value of LNR in the prognosis and postsurgical management of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

Materials And Methods: The authors designed a retrospective cohort study and enrolled a sample of patients who were diagnosed with OSCC and treated by neck dissection.

A Case of Primary Combined Squamous Cell Carcinoma with Neuroendocrine (Atypical Carcinoid) Tumor in the Floor of the Mouth.

The combined squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with neuroendocrine (atypical carcinoid (AC)) tumor is extremely rare in the head and neck. We present here the first case of SCC with AC arising in the floor of the mouth of 65-year-old man. The tumor is comprised of two components of SCC and AC in the biopsy specimen.

A Rare Primary Neuroendocrine Tumor (Typical Carcinoid) of the Sublingual Gland.

A typical carcinoid is extremely rare in the oral cavity. We here present a case of a typical carcinoid arising in the sublingual gland of a 62-year-old woman. The tumor was removed by primary excision with 10 mm surgical margins and submandibular dissection.

A Case of Brain Abscess Caused by Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw.

Reports of brain abscesses caused by medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) are very rare. We here present the case of a 76-year-old man with terminal-stage prostatic carcinoma and a brain abscess caused by MRONJ at the maxilla. The patient had been treated with zoledronic acid and denosumab for bone metastasis.

MicroRNA-155-5p is associated with oral squamous cell carcinoma metastasis and poor prognosis.

Background: Abnormal miRNA expression was recently implicated in the metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and with a poor prognosis. The initiation of the invasion-metastasis cascade involves epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Our aim was to clarify how miRNA, especially miR-155-5p misexpression contributes to OSCC metastasis through EMT.
