We investigated the effect of retinal traction caused by epiretinal membranes (ERMs) on aniseikonia and retinal microstructures in 81 unilateral ERMs. Retinal traction was quantified by measuring the maximum depth of the retinal fold (MDRF) using en face optical coherence tomography (OCT) images. Measurements included the mean inner nuclear layer (INL), outer plexiform layer (OPL), outer nuclear layer (ONL), central retinal thickness (CRT), and interocular ratios of the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area (FAZ ratio).

D-MER develops due to the effects of hormones involved in lactation, and it has been reported that it is a physiological symptom different from postpartum depression, but the actual situation is unknown in Japan.
Methods: This study was conducted using a self-administered, anonymous survey of mothers of children who had undergone health checkups at three years of age at five health centers in Kagoshima city and aimed to clarify the reality and perceptions of mothers regarding D-MER.

Background: Trastuzumab emtansine (T-DM1) is a second-line standard therapy for patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive metastatic breast cancer. Evidence regarding post-T-DM1 treatments is currently lacking. We evaluated the effectiveness of post-T-DM1 drug therapy in patients with HER2-positive, unresectable and/or metastatic breast cancer.

Here we show an association between self-reported walking speed and bone mass among community-dwelling postmenopausal Japanese women aged 50 years and older. DESIGN; CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY: Setting and Participants; The survey population included 1008 postmenopausal women 50-92 years of age residing in rural communities.

Problem: If universal health coverage (UHC) is to be achieved globally, it needs sustained promotion and political awareness and support.
Approach: During its presidency of the Group of Seven (G7) industrialized nations in 2016, Japan aimed to raise the issue of UHC to the top of the global health agenda.
Local Setting: Japan has promoted a health agenda at all of the G7 summits since 2000 that it has hosted.
Aim: Adenomyosis is a common gynecological disorder that causes dysmenorrhea, hypermenorrhea and metrorrhagia. Previously, we reported that 24 weeks of dienogest treatment is highly effective for pain in symptomatic adenomyosis. Up to present, there is no report that describes treatment of adenomyosis with long-term dienogest administration for more than 2 years.

Methods: A total of 37 patients with peripheral facial nerve palsy in Teine-Keijinkai Hospital were enrolled in this study. All patients showed synkinesis at 6 months after the onset of facial nerve palsy and were instructed in physical rehabilitation by expert staff from their first visit.
Exposure to a stressful environment early in life can cause psychiatric disorders by disrupting circuit formation. Actin plays central roles in regulating neuronal structure and protein trafficking. We have recently reported that neonatal isolation inactivated ADF/cofilin, the actin depolymerizing factor, resulted in a reduced actin dynamics at spines and an attenuation of synaptic α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole propionic acid (AMPA) receptor delivery in the juvenile rat medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), leading to altered social behaviours.

However, the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms involved are largely unknown. Here, we found that isolation of neonatal rats induced glucocorticoid-dependent social dominance over nonisolated control rats in juveniles from the same litter.

Background: Postpartum mental health problems are a major public health issue; however, studies on the mental health status of mothers and its influencing factors between 8 weeks and 1 year postpartum are scarce. Furthermore, it would be necessary to examine the factors influencing mothers' mental health in order to evaluate their physiological adaptations to the nursing environment.
Methods: We examined the mental health status of postpartum women and the factors influencing poor mental health at 4 months after delivery.
Arteriovenous fistula is any abnormal connection between an artery and a vein that bypasses the normal capillary bed and shunts arterial blood directly to the venous circulation. Uterine arteriovenous fistula (UAVF) is a potentially life-threatening condition by causing massive bleeding. This report describes a case of UAVF with massive hemorrhage.
