Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how different essential element concentrations (Fe, Mg, Zn, Cu, Ca, P) in plasma could serve as potential markers for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) compared to other heart diseases like angina and heart failure.
  • - Findings reveal that plasma levels of cardiac troponin T (TnT) are significantly higher in AMI patients and negatively correlated with copper (Cu) and calcium (Ca) concentrations.
  • - While most element levels were within normal ranges, higher magnesium (Mg) levels and lower Cu and Ca levels in AMI patients may distinguish this condition from other heart diseases.

  • Cell-free DNA (cfDNA) is DNA found in blood that increases in concentration during certain diseases, including cancers like acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL).
  • In a study, researchers observed that cfDNA levels were slightly elevated in APL patients undergoing arsenic trioxide (ATO) treatment compared to healthy controls, with changes in cfDNA corresponding to plasma arsenic levels.
  • The study reported specific fragment patterns of cfDNA in APL patients, suggesting that it might be released through necrosis or neutrophil extracellular traps, but more research is needed to determine if cfDNA can serve as a reliable biomarker for APL treatment effectiveness.

This study aimed to prove that the FibroScan-aspartate aminotransferase (FAST) scores can be used to stratify disease severity in a Japanese cohort with fatty liver diseases [metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)]. All the participants (n = 2254) underwent liver stiffness measurements and controlled attenuation parameter assessments. We compared the clinical characteristics of the patients with MAFLD and NAFLD using the FAST scores and explored the independent determinants of FAST scores ≥ 0.
