Objective: This study aims to investigate the correlation between dietary inflammatory index (DII) and mortality resulting from all-cause and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in adults affected by metabolic syndrome (MetS).
Methods: The focus of this study was to analyze the information of 13,751 adults who had been diagnosed with MetS. DII scores were computed based on a 24-hour dietary intake at the start of the study.
Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging infectious disease with a high mortality rate that is often underdiagnosed due to the limitations of current laboratory testing. Timely diagnosis and early identification of severe cases are crucial to improving patient outcomes and overall survival rates. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of two transcripts, IFI44L and PI3, in the early differentiation between SFTS virus (SFTSV) infection and bacterial sepsis, as well as in the prompt identification of severe cases during epidemic seasons.

Background: Scrub typhus, an acute febrile disease caused by is transmitted to humans through infected chigger mites. We present a case of scrub typhus in a previously healthy man from Shandong Province diagnosed using next-generation sequencing (NGS) and PCR and review recent literature on NGS for scrub typhus diagnosis.
Methods: NGS was utilized for testing whole blood collected on admission.
Considering that fruits are vulnerable to damage and waste during stockpiling, transport and marketing. Given this, an innovative curcumin inclusion compound (Cur@β-CD) was devised in this study to introduce oil-soluble curcumin (Cur) into water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) materials, thereby fabricating food packaging films endowed with excellent properties. DPPH test manifested that the oxidation resistance for PCOMC-Cur@β-CD film was 95 % above PVA material.

What Is Added By This Report?: In April 2023, the Jinan CDC identified a case of CNS brucellosis in a 54-year-old woman through cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) culture. Upon confirming the diagnosis of brucellosis, the Jinan CDC immediately informed Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, to which the patient had been transferred, and she was subsequently tracked and successfully treated.
A new monoterpene, (-)-10-hydroxydihydroactinidiolide (1), along with two known monoterpenes, loliolide (2) and (+)-isololiolide (3), three known megastigmanes, 3α-hydroxy-5β,6β-epoxy-β-ionone (4), 3α-hydroxy-5α,6α-epoxy-β-ionone (5), and (+)-dehydrovomifoliol (6), a eudesmane-type sesquiterpene, 4α-hydroxy-4β-methyldihydrocostol (7), a monoterpene, 8-hydroxycarvotanacetone (8), two flavonoids, chrysoeriol (9) and apigenin (10), and a phenylpropanoid, 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-propanol (11), were isolated from the whole plant of Achillea millefolium. The structure of compound 1 was identified according to spectroscopic data of HRMS and NMR, and its absolute configuration was assigned by C NMR calculations with DP4+ probability analyses and ECD calculations. The absolute configuration of compound 6 was determined by ECD calculations.

Using metabolomic and proteomic analyses, we identified high expression of hepatic transketolase (TKT), a metabolic enzyme of the pentose phosphate pathway, in human and mouse MAFLD. Hyperinsulinemia promoted TKT expression through the insulin receptor-CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein alpha axis.

As an increasingly popular pathogen detection method, the performance of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in detecting pathogens in febrile patients with suspected infection requires further exploration.
Methods: This study included 368 febrile patients with suspected infections who were admitted to the Infectious Disease Department of Qilu Hospital, Shandong University between January 5, 2021 and April 14, 2023.
Herein, the electrical characteristics, photoelectric properties, resistive switching (RS) mechanism, and flexible storage application of Ag/PMMA&Mn:CsPbCl/ITO (PMMA = poly(methyl methacrylate)) devices are studied by using the photoelectric material Mn:CsPbCl nanocrystals (NCs) embedded in PMMA as the RS layer. The devices exhibit bipolar RS behavior with low operating voltage, excellent cycling endurance (>1000 times), long retention time (≥10 s), high ON/OFF ratio (≈10), and good environmental stability. The flexible memory devices have demonstrated reliable mechanical stability of consecutive 1000 bending cycles.

Electrospinning as a versatile, simple, and cost-effective method to engineer a variety of micro or nanofibrous materials, has contributed to significant developments in the biomedical field. However, the traditional electrospinning of single material only can produce homogeneous fibrous assemblies with limited functional properties, which oftentimes fails to meet the ever-increasing requirements of biomedical applications. Thus, multi-material electrospinning referring to engineering two or more kinds of materials, has been recently developed to enable the fabrication of diversified complex fibrous structures with advanced performance for greatly promoting biomedical development.
