We examined the relationship between resource abundance and the feeding activity of phytophagous insects on three common island plants. The aim was to investigate the correlation between phytophagous insects' abundance and availability of food and island geography. The data presented in this article are related to the research article "Effect of elevation on the insect herbivory of Mongolian oaks in the high mountains of southern South Korea" (Sohn et al., 2019). We collected oak leaves occurring in two mountains: Jirisan Mountain on the mainland of Korea (12 September 2015) and Hallasan Mountain on Jejudo Island (21 September 2015).
