Background: Previously we identified a complex of non-structural protein (NS) 1 - Thrombin (NST) in dengue infected patients. Here, we investigated how the concentration of NS1 and NST differ in various dengue severity levels as well as their demographic and clinical features. Several comorbid (hypertension, diabetes, and chronic renal failure) often found in dengue patients were also measured and analyzed.

Methods: An analytical, cross-sectional study was done on 100 eyes of 50 subjects, equally divided in the glaucoma suspect and control group. Subjects with an asymmetrically increased vertical cup-to-disc ratio and without any perimetric change were taken as suspects, and subjects with normal findings were taken as controls.
Unlabelled: Phenotypic plasticity is a recognized mechanism driving therapeutic resistance in patients with prostate cancer. Although underlying molecular causations driving phenotypic plasticity have been identified, therapeutic success is yet to be achieved. To identify putative master regulator transcription factors (MR-TF) driving phenotypic plasticity in prostate cancer, this work utilized a multiomic approach using genetically engineered mouse models of prostate cancer combined with patient data to identify MYB proto-oncogene like 2 (MYBL2) as a significantly enriched transcription factor in prostate cancer exhibiting phenotypic plasticity.

The self-assembly process was achieved through the anti-solvent effect.

Materials and methods This is a prospective observational study including patients presenting within two weeks of acute rise of systolic blood pressure (SBP) ≥ 180 mm Hg or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) ≥ 120 mm Hg and with posterior segment involvement in both eyes. Baseline SBP, DBP, mean arterial pressure (MAP), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), and SD OCT parameters such as central macular thickness (CMT), subfoveal choroidal thickness (SCT), and sub-retinal fluid (SRF) height were measured at presentation and followed monthly up to three months.

Purpose: There has been a sudden increase in the number of rhino-orbital mucormycosis cases, primarily affecting patients recovering from COVID-19 infection. The local health authorities have declared the current situation an epidemic. In this study, we assess the role of exenteration in preventing disease progression and improving survival in patients with rhino-orbital mucormycosis.

Several research groups have approached from various directions to understand the formation of toxic amyloid fibrils from the essential amino acid Phe. Different parameters like the nature of the solvent, pH, Phe concentration, temperature, influence the fibril formation kinetics.

Created in 2009, the Johns Hopkins C-RAC has a mission to achieve diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) of stakeholders across the entire research continuum. It has nurtured over a decade of partnership among community and academic stakeholders toward addressing health disparity, health equity, structural racism, and discrimination.

Although they have high theoretical specific capacities (>300 mA h/g) and moderate operating voltages (∼3.5 V vs Li/Li), DRX cathodes typically require a high carbon content (up to 30 wt %) to fully utilize the active material which has a detrimental impact on cell-level energy density.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMn-based cation-disordered rocksalt oxides (Mn-DRX) are emerging as promising cathode materials for next-generation Li-ion batteries due to their high specific capacities and cobalt- and nickel-free characteristic. However, to reach the usable capacity, solid-state synthesized Mn-DRX materials require activation via postsynthetic ball milling, typically incorporating more than 20 wt % conductive carbon that adversely reduces the electrode-level gravimetric capacity. To address this issue, we first deposit amorphous carbon on the surface of the LiMnTiO (LMTO) particles to increase the electrical conductivity by 5 orders of magnitude.

Here, in the design, the chirality of the α-amino acid was varied to study the effect of molecular chirality on the supramolecular assembly. Self-assembly and gelation of three NMI conjugates were studied in mixed solvent systems [water and dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO)].

Here, using human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived microglia-like cells (hiPSC-MG) harboring the most common ALS/FTD mutation (, mC9-MG), gene-corrected isogenic controls (isoC9-MG), and knockout hiPSC-MG (C9KO-MG), we show that reduced C9ORF72 protein is associated with impaired phagocytosis and an exaggerated immune response upon stimulation with lipopolysaccharide. Analysis of the C9ORF72 interactome revealed that C9ORF72 interacts with regulators of autophagy and functional studies showed impaired initiation of autophagy in mC9-MG and C9KO-MG.

Background: Existing artificial intelligence for melanoma detection has relied on analysing images of lesions of clinical interest, which may lead to missed melanomas. Tools analysing the entire skin surface are lacking.
Objectives: To determine if melanoma can be distinguished from other skin lesions using data from automated analysis of 3D-images.

Background: In acute chemical injury, damage can range from ocular surface epithelial defects to limbal and scleral ischemia. This may subsequently progress to corneal or scleral melting and perforation and finally result in phthisis bulbi. Thus, acute chemical injury is a potentially blinding condition and warrants attention.
