Lower Risks of New-Onset Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Treated With SGLT2 Inhibitors Versus DPP4 Inhibitors.

- This study investigates the risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with Type 2 diabetes being treated with either sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) or dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP4i).
- In a retrospective analysis involving over 62,000 patients in Hong Kong, it found that SGLT2i users had a significantly lower risk of developing HCC compared to those using DPP4i.
- The findings indicate SGLT2i is associated with reduced HCC risk, even among patients with complicating factors like cirrhosis and viral infections.
Background: The International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS) has placed a strong focus on achieving gender equality and equity in liver transplant (LT). We aimed to understand gender distribution in leadership positions among LT physicians around the world and within ILTS.
Methods: In 2019, the ILTS Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee distributed a survey to obtain granular data on gender and characteristics of transplant physicians as well as those in leadership positions in each center.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the short- and long-term outcome of associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy (ALPPS) for hepatitis-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Summary Background Data: ALPPS has been advocated for future liver remnant (FLR) augmentation in liver metastasis or noncirrhotic liver tumors in recent years. Data on the effect of ALPPS in chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis-related HCC remained scarce.
Background: Patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are at risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the magnitude of the association still needs to be determined to define the need for a specific surveillance strategy.
Methods: We based our assessment on a previously published review by White et al (1992-2011) and on a systematic review(2012-2017).
Results: The new search identified 328 abstracts.
