Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) is the gold standard biomaterial used as a bearing surface in total joint replacement surgeries. However, osteolysis and subsequent implant failure as a result of the production of wear debris may occur at the contacting surfaces. One potential solution to overcome this problem is to strengthen the surface of UHMWPE which can be achieved by adding a thin coating layer made of Polyamide.
