Modeling the health and economic implications of adopting a 1-dose 9-valent human papillomavirus vaccination program in adolescents in low/middle-income countries: An analysis of Indonesia.

Background: Recent evidence suggests that 1 dose of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine may have similar effectiveness in reducing HPV infection risk compared to 2 or 3 doses.

Objective: To evaluate the public health impact and cost-effectiveness of implementing a 1-dose or a 2-dose program of the 9-valent HPV vaccine in a low- and middle-income country (LMIC).

Methods: We adapted a dynamic transmission model to the Indonesia setting, and conducted a probabilistic sensitivity analysis using distributions reflecting the uncertainty in levels and durability of protection of a 1-dose that were estimated under a Bayesian framework incorporating 3-year vaccine efficacy data from the KEN SHE trial (base-case) and 10 year effectiveness data from the India IARC study (alternative analysis).

Role of HPV in the Prediction of Persistence/Recurrence After Treatment for Cervical Precancer.

Objectives: (1) To determine the role of human papillomavirus (HPV) testing after excisional treatment of cervical precancer. (2) To determine clinical factors associated with persistence of cervical precancer post-treatment.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted including patients who had a loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) for cervical precancer (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 3/adenocarcinoma in situ/high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions [HSIL]).

Objective: Identifying human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination motivators and barriers among adults could lead to new approaches to improve HPV vaccination rates in non-pediatric populations. This Canadian survey aimed to assess current knowledge of, attitudes towards, and barriers to the HPV vaccine among the general public.

Methods: An online panel was used to survey HPV unvaccinated women (n = 802) and vaccinated women (n = 250) 18 to 45 years old, as well as 18- to 26-year-old men (n = 200), in May and June 2016.

Objective: Physicians are the sole prescribers of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for adults in Canada. This survey of Canadian physicians aimed to explore knowledge, barriers, and preventive practices regarding HPV vaccination.

Method: A survey of general practitioners (GPs) (n = 337) and obstetrician/gynaecologists (OB/GYNs) (n = 81) was conducted in May and June 2016 using an online panel.

Betwixt and Between Well and Sick in Cervical Precancer: Canadian Women's Experiences of Recurring HPV Infections and HPV Vaccination.

Background This research fuses the experiences of a precancer diagnosis with the decision-making surrounding a vaccine that can protect against human papillomavirus strains that women may not have been exposed to. The interviewee cohort is of note as half the women were in their 30s and 40s and 75% were over the age of 26. These groupings are often overlooked in media discourses and narrative research surrounding human papillomavirus and the human papillomavirus vaccine.

Complementary and hormonal therapy for vasomotor symptom relief: a conservative clinical approach.

Vasomotor symptoms are the most common menopausal symptom experienced by women and the leading reason menopausal women seek health care advice. The recent shift towards a more conservative use of hormone therapy (HT) during menopause has prompted the need for treatment regimens to be individualized according to symptom severity. Our objective was to develop a new algorithm that enables practitioners to customize treatment regimens according to symptom severity.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of oral misoprostol as a cervical ripening agent when used in operative hysteroscopy.

Study Design: This was a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Any patient undergoing an operative hysteroscopy (with a 9-mm to 10-mm hysteroscope) was considered eligible for the trial.
