Background And Aims: The prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in patients on renal replacement has been reduced in developed countries, but information from developing nations is currently scarce and high prevalence rates are suspected. We undertook this study to analyze the prevalence of HBV infection and identify risk factors associated with it in a sample of Mexican hemodialysis patients.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed in patients on hemodialysis in Mexico.
Serum hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA level is a predictor of the development of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in chronic hepatitis B patients. Nevertheless, the distribution of viral load levels in chronic HBV patients in Brazil has yet to be described. This cross-sectional study included 564 participants selected in nine Brazilian cities located in four of the five regions of the country using the database of a medical diagnostics company.

Purpose: To assess the efficacy of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH), testosterone, and anabolic steroids in the treatment of HIV wasting.
Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis of studies published in English since 1996 was conducted. Studies of anabolic steroids, testosterone, and rhGH in treatment of HIV wasting reporting the efficacy outcomes of body composition measures, work output, or health-related quality of life (QoL) were eligible.
