The Historical Case for a Strong and Diverse Neurology Clerkship Leadership Team.

The role of the clerkship director has evolved significantly over the past century and now requires a diverse range of skills to meet the rigorous standards set by national accrediting bodies such as the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. We conducted a historical exploration, spanning the past 43 years, of the educational practices in the Neurology Department at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. We learned that no entity is responsible for documenting the history of the clerkship.

The aim of this research was to explore how community-dwelling individuals with ABI in Queensland navigate the NDIS participant pathway to individualised funded supports.

Niche cells regulate primordial germ cell quiescence in response to basement membrane signaling.

Stem cell quiescence, proliferation and differentiation are controlled by interactions with niche cells and a specialized extracellular matrix called basement membrane (BM). Direct interactions with adjacent BM are known to regulate stem cell quiescence; however, it is less clear how niche BM relays signals to stem cells that it does not contact. Here, we examine how niche BM regulates Caenorhabditis elegans primordial germ cells (PGCs).

A Multimodality Imaging Approach to Defining Risk in Patients With Acute Pulmonary Embolism.

Background: Morbidity and mortality for acute pulmonary embolism (PE) remain high. Therapies such as catheter-directed thrombolysis may improve outcomes, but these are generally reserved for higher-risk patients. Imaging may help guide the use of the newer therapies, but current guidelines focus more on clinical factors.

Experiential Learning of Childhood Growth and Development Through a Pediatric Play Project.

The adoption of a new undergraduate nursing curriculum granted the opportunity to develop a new method for teaching growth and development. The Pediatric Play Project was designed as part of clinical experience where students explored principles of growth and development by designing a toy or play activity for a hospitalized pediatric patient. Students exhibited immense creativity while meeting learning outcomes, and the project received positive feedback from students and faculty.

However, there are typically limited professional and career building pathways for CHWs, which contribute to low wages and lack of career advancement, further resulting in turnover, attrition, and workforce instability.

Methods: The Center for Community Health Alignment (CCHA), within the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina, utilized a mixed-method data collection strategy to provide a more in-depth understanding of this issue and ways that employers, advocates, and CHWs can address it.

Standardizing Strep Throat Documentation in a Pediatric Outpatient Setting During COVID-19: A Quality Improvement Pilot Project.

Clinicians' nonadherence to the 2012 Infectious Diseases Society of America's group A streptococcal (GAS) pharyngitis guidelines leads to unnecessary in-person clinic visits, unnecessary use of bacterial testing, and inappropriate antibiotic prescriptions. Quality improvement methodology was used during nurse telephone triage at an outpatient pediatric clinic to standardize nurse documentation to align with the GAS guidelines. This pilot project's standardization resulted in improved communication among clinicians and decreased unnecessary resource and antibiotic use despite encountering barriers related to COVID-19.

Mitochondria harbor an independent genome, called mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), which contains essential metabolic genes. Although mtDNA mutations occur at high frequency, they are inherited infrequently, indicating that germline mechanisms limit their accumulation. To determine how germline mtDNA is regulated, we examined the control of mtDNA quantity and quality in primordial germ cells (PGCs).
