Objective: To characterize the association between number, timing, and type of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) and likelihood of postgraduate year one (PGY1) residency match outcomes.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed among PGY1 residency-seeking pharmacy students from graduating years 2018-2021 as identified from the National Matching Services Inc. enrollee list.

[Detection of Tetrodotoxin in Vomit and Urine from a Patient Suffering from Pufferfish Poisoning].

We experienced a pufferfish poisoning case where no food residue was available to detect a causative agent. However, tetrodotoxin (TTX) was detected in vomit and urine samples from a patient using LC-MS/MS. Furthermore, we found a significant matrix effect in this analysis, indicating that the retention time of vomit and urine was not identical to the TTX standard solution and measured values multiplied by the dilution factors were not constant.

Efficacy and Safety of a Recombinant Plant-Based Adjuvanted Covid-19 Vaccine.

Background: Coronavirus-like particles (CoVLP) that are produced in plants and display the prefusion spike glycoprotein of the original strain of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are combined with an adjuvant (Adjuvant System 03 [AS03]) to form the candidate vaccine.

Methods: In this phase 3, multinational, randomized, placebo-controlled trial conducted at 85 centers, we assigned adults (≥18 years of age) in a 1:1 ratio to receive two intramuscular injections of the CoVLP+AS03 vaccine or placebo 21 days apart. The primary objective of the trial was to determine the efficacy of the CoVLP+AS03 vaccine in preventing symptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) beginning at least 7 days after the second injection, with the analysis performed after the detection of at least 160 cases.

Methods: The JOA lateral epicondylitis guideline committee revised the previous guidelines on the basis of the "Medical Information Network Distribution Service Handbook for Clinical Practice Guideline Development 2014", which emphasized the importance of the balance between benefit and harm, and proposed a desirable method for preparing clinical guidelines in Japan.

However, few studies have investigated the insertion sequence of the distal screws, although long screw insertion into the distal fragment is technically demanding. The purpose of this study was to investigate a correlation between the insertion sequence of the distal screws and the screw insertion difficulty.

The effect of sleep quality, sleep components, and environmental sleep factors on core curriculum exam scores among pharmacy students.

Introduction: Sleep deprivation is associated with poor academic performance, although the impact on pharmacy students has been minimally reported. This study examined sleep quality in pharmacy students in the first (P1), second (P2), and third (P3) professional years during perceived low and high stress periods in a course. Individual sleep and environmental factors were also explored.

Advancing Pharmacist Collaborative Care within Academic Health Systems.

Introduction: The scope of pharmacy practice has evolved over the last few decades to focus on the optimization of medication therapy. Despite this positive impact, the lack of reimbursement remains a significant barrier to the implementation of innovative pharmacist practice models.

Summary: We describe the successful development, implementation and outcomes of three types of pharmacist collaborative care models: (1) a pharmacist with physician oversight, (2) pharmacist-interprofessional teams and (3) physician-pharmacist teams.

Surgical technique in tension band wiring method for selected comminuted olecranon fractures.

Background: The use of tension band wiring (TBW) for comminuted olecranon fractures is less recommendable these days. However, some experts preferentially apply TBW to comminuted fractures resulting in favorable outcomes. We here present the surgical technique using TBW with eyelet and absorbable pins for selected comminuted olecranon fractures and review the clinical and radiographic outcomes.

Safety and efficacy of direct oral anticoagulants for venous thromboembolism and stroke prophylaxis in patients with hematologic malignancies.

Purpose: Low-molecular-weight heparins are currently the recommended antithrombotic therapy for treatment and prevention of malignancy-related venous thromboembolism. Currently, the evidence evaluating direct oral anticoagulants versus low-molecular-weight heparins or a vitamin K antagonist in cancer patients with hematologic malignancies is limited. Surgical Treatment of Calcaneal Avulsion Fracture in Elderly Patients Using Cannulated Cancellous Screws and Titanium Wire.

Avulsion fractures of the calcaneus are relatively uncommon and are seen most frequently in elderly or osteoporotic patients. A surgical method that avoids displacement of the avulsed fragment after fixation has not been developed. We report the cases of 3 patients (a 73-year-old male, an 85-year-old male, and an 81-year-old female) treated by open reduction and internal fixation using titanium wire and cannulated cancellous screws.

Diagnostic arthroscopy in the treatment of minimally displaced lateral humeral condyle fractures in children.

Introduction: In minimally displaced pediatric lateral humeral condyle fractures, plain radiography cannot be used for accurate differential diagnosis of the cartilage lesion, and other imaging methods have demerits in their accuracy and their accessibility. Medial condyle fracture of the distal humerus in an adolescent with pre-existing fishtail deformity. A case report.

Medial condyle fractures of the humerus are rare in any age group. We report a unique case of a humeral medial condyle fracture in a 15-year-old boy with posttraumatic fishtail deformity. The fracture line extended up from the top of the sharp trochlear wedge to the incomplete medial supracondylar cortical aperture.

Maintaining glycemic control when transitioning from infusion insulin: a protocol-driven, multidisciplinary approach.

Background: An observational pilot study of 41 medical and surgical intensive care patients on infusion insulin at our own institution found that glycemic control rapidly deteriorated within 48 hours of stopping infusion insulin. This prompted the design and testing of a transition protocol.

There is no clear consensus about the best management of intra-articular distal ulnar fractures associated with distal radial fractures in older adults. We describe a treatment wherein the distal radial fractures were securely fixed with a palmar plate, leaving the associated ulnar fractures unfixed. The wrists of 14 patients with a mean age of 74 years were reviewed at an average of 18 months after surgery.

Osteochondritis dissecans of the humeral trochlea with cubitus varus deformity. A case report.

Osteochondritis dissecans of the elbow primarily involves the capitellum. We report a rare case of osteochondritis dissecans involving the humeral trochlea in a 19-year-old male with a post-traumatic cubitus varus deformity. Biomechanics suggested that the varus malalignment caused repetitive axial force across the medial elbow, which led to microtrauma to the trochlea during the patient's daily work.

Purpose: There is little information on solitary tumorous calcification causing carpal tunnel syndrome in the literature. This study describes our experience with surgically treated cases of solitary tumorous calcification causing carpal tunnel syndrome.

Methods: Seven patients with symptomatic carpal tunnel syndrome who had tumorous calcification in the carpal tunnel confirmed by radiographical examinations and had then undergone open incisional carpal tunnel release were reviewed.

Modulation of peritendinous adhesion formation by alginate solution in a rabbit flexor tendon model.

To examine the antiadhesive effect of an alginate solution following tendon surgery, unilateral subtotal laceration of the flexor digitorum communis tendon was created in one hind limb while the other side was left intact in 32 Japanese white rabbits. The lesion was coated with alginate solution in 16 animals and not coated in the other 16. Degree of adhesion formation was assessed histologically and biomechanically by measuring the flexion angle of the first toe when the flexor digitorum tendon was pulled with a specified force at 4 weeks postoperatively.
