Objectives: Hemogram inflammatory markers, including neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), red-cell distribution width (RDW), and mean platelet volume (MPV) have been associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its complications, namely diabetic kidney diseases (DKD). We aimed to develop and validate logistic regression (LR) and CatBoost diagnostic models and study the role of adding these markers to the models.

Methods: All individuals who were managed in our secondary care center from March 2020 to December 2023 were identified.

Estradiol (E2) levels on the day progesterone starts may negatively impact implantation, ongoing pregnancy, and live birth rates in frozen embryo transfer (FET). Overall, while the picture isn't entirely clear, some evidence suggests maintaining estradiol levels within a specific range before starting progesterone might be beneficial for frozen transfer success. So we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to find out the rate of pregnancy-related outcomes of frozen embryo transfer in different level of E2.

Background: Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is considered a worldwide health problem associated with high morbidity, mortality, and cost of care. In the present study, we examined risk-enhancing factors for ASCVD in healthcare workers of the AZAR cohort population.

Methods: Data from a total of 500 participants were used for this cross-sectional study.

Endoscopes are crucial for assisting in surgery and disease diagnosis, including the early detection of cancer. The effective use of endoscopes relies on their optical performance, which can be characterized with a series of metrics such as resolution, vital for revealing anatomical details. The modulation transfer function (MTF) is a key metric for evaluating endoscope resolution.

Background: Osteoporotic fractures can result in significant health complications and an increased risk of death. Registry studies could provide better treatment options and improve patient outcomes by providing useful information about the disease. The present study describes the protocol for an osteoporosis registry in Iran.

The objective of this research was to develop a mucoadhesive delivery system that improves permeation for the administration of poorly absorbed oral medications. Thiolation of xanthan gum (XGM) was carried out by esterification with mercaptobutyric acid. Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy was used to confirm thiol-derivatization.

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) pose a significant threat to the health and well-being of individuals with diabetes, often leading to lower limb amputations. Fortunately, epidermal stem cell therapy offers hope for improving the treatment of DFUs. By leveraging 3D culture techniques, the scalability of stem cell manufacturing can be greatly enhanced.

Background: This study investigated the association of atorvastatin use on survival, need for intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and length of hospital stay (LOS) among COVID-19 inpatients.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective study was conducted between March 20th, 2020, and March 18th, 2021, on patients with confirmed COVID-19 admitted to three hospitals in Tehran, Iran. The unadjusted and adjusted effects of atorvastatin on COVID-19 prognosis were investigated.

Background: Repaglinide (REP) is an antidiabetic drug with limited oral bioavailability attributable to its low solubility and considerable first-pass hepatic breakdown. This study aimed to develop a biodegradable chitosan-based system loaded with REP-solid lipid nanoparticles (REP-SLNs) for controlled release and bioavailability enhancement via transdermal delivery.

Methods: REP-SLNs were fabricated by ultrasonic hot-melt emulsification.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the high prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in the North Africa and Middle East region, revealing a substantial lack of knowledge regarding its epidemiological status.
  • An analysis of data from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease Study shows significant increases in T2DM incidence (79.6%) and prevalence (85.5%) from 1990 to 2019, along with rising mortality rates and years lived with disability (YLDs).
  • The findings highlight that modifiable risk factors, such as high body mass index, low physical activity, and pollution, are key contributors to T2DM-related deaths, suggesting that addressing these factors could help mitigate the

Introduction: A growing number of studies have thus far showed the association between type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and the intestinal microbiome homoeostasis. As reported, the gut microflora can be significantly different in patients with type 2 DM (T2DM) compared to those in healthy individuals.

Methods: The authors collected the relevant articles published until 2022 and these are carefully selected from three scientific databases based on keywords.

Natural killer (NK) cells are a part of a sophisticated immune system that is necessary for the skin because it is a crucial organ that is continually exposed to environmental influences. Recent studies have shown that NK cell incorporation into three-dimensional (3D) organotypic culture systems for human skin stem cells provides a physiologically relevant environment to study the interactions between immune cells and skin cells, making it a powerful tool for simulating skin diseases and researching these interactions. It has been shown that adding NK cells to 3D organotypic culture systems can improve keratinocyte differentiation and control inflammation in a variety of skin conditions, including psoriasis.
