Mass mortality occurred at an Anguilla japonica eel farm equipped with a recirculating aquaculture system in Gimcheon, Korea, from late spring to early summer 2015. The cumulative 3-month mortality was 16% (approximately 24,300-150,000 fish). The majority of affected fish displayed ulcerative lesions that progressed to petechial haemorrhages and small white granulomas in the major organs.

Positive hybridomas (clones eFA-C5, eFA-C10, eFA-C11, eFA-C12, eFA-C13, and eFB-C14) were selected by using the eel FSH antigen in ELISA, and anti-eel FSH mAbs were purified from culture supernatants by performing affinity chromatography. Three of the 6mAbs were characterized and their isotypes were identified as IgG2b (eFA-C5 and eFA-C11) and IgG1 (eFB-C14).

THC were increased significantly in oysters infected with M. chungmuensis relative to the healthy appearing oysters (HAO) (P<0.

PoDAK cDNA encodes a polypeptide with 277 amino acids containing conserved catalytic triad residues of serine proteases. The amino acid sequence of PoDAK showed high similarity to the kallikrein-like protein of medaka, mammalian adipsin/complement factor D and tissue kallikrein homolog, KT-14 of trout, complement factor D of zebrafish, and shared 31.

However, the genotypes of fish nodaviruses in Korea have not yet been determined due to a lack of information about their nucleotide sequences. In this study, we isolated 5 fish nodaviruses from 4 fish species cultured in 4 different regions in Korea: rock bream Oplegnathus fasciatus, Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus, sevenband grouper Epinephelus septemfasciatus, and grey mullet Mugil cophalus.

The full open reading frames (ORFs) encoding the major capsid protein (MCP) (1362 bp) from the 13 flounder iridoviruses (FLIVs) were sequenced and the deduced amino acid sequences were phylogenetically analyzed. Phylogenetic analysis of the MCP revealed that all 13 FLIVs were the same species as rock bream iridovirus (RBIV), red sea bream iridovirus (RSIV), and infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV), and were grouped into an unknown genus which was different from the 2 genera known to infect fish, Ranavirus and Lymphocystivirus.
