The polarization of Λ and Λ[over ¯] hyperons along the beam direction has been measured relative to the second and third harmonic event planes in isobar Ru+Ru and Zr+Zr collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200  GeV. This is the first experimental evidence of the hyperon polarization by the triangular flow originating from the initial density fluctuations. The amplitudes of the sine modulation for the second and third harmonic results are comparable in magnitude, increase from central to peripheral collisions, and show a mild p_{T} dependence.

We developed a promising mRNA vaccine against severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), an infectious disease caused by the SFTS virus that is primarily transmitted through tick bites. Administration of lipid nanoparticle-encapsulated mRNA-Gn successfully induced neutralizing antibodies and T-cell responses in mice. The vaccinated mice were protected against a lethal SFTS virus challenge, suggesting that this mRNA vaccine may be an effective and successful SFTS vaccine candidate.

The respiratory rate (RR) is a significant indicator to evaluate a patient's prognosis and status; however, it requires specific instrumentation or estimates from other monitored signals. A photoplethysmogram (PPG) is extensively used in clinical environments as well as in intensive care units (ICUs) to primarily monitor peripheral circulation while capturing indirect information about intrathoracic pressure changes. This study aims to apply and evaluate several deep learning models using a PPG for the continuous and accurate estimation of the RRs of patients.

This report describes the direct electrolysis of treated wastewater (as a catholyte) to produce hydrogen and potentially reuse the water. To suppress the negative shift of the cathodic potential due to an increase in pH by the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), the treated wastewater is acidified using the synergetic effect of protons generated from the bipolar membrane and inorganic precipitation occurred at the surface of the cathode during the HER. Natural seawater, as an accessible source for Mg ions, was added to the treated wastewater because the concentration of Mg ions contained in the original wastewater was too low for acidification to occur.

To address limitations in current approaches for treating large peripheral nerve defects, the presented study evaluated the feasibility of functional material-mediated physical stimuli on peripheral nerve regeneration. Electrospun piezoelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) nanofibers were utilized to deliver mechanical actuation-activated electrical stimulation to nerve cells/tissues in a non-invasive manner. Using morphologically and piezoelectrically optimized nanofibers for neurite extension and Schwann cell maturation based on in vitro experiments, piezoelectric nerve conduits were synthesized and implanted in a rat sciatic nerve transection model to bridge a critical-sized sciatic nerve defect (15 mm).

The design of eco-friendly and renewable energy infrastructure is highly desirable to advance the global energy landscape. Phase-change materials (PCMs) are used to mitigate intermittency issues and reversibly store high densities of thermal energy in the form of heat during the phase transition process and provide ample potential for the advancement of renewable energy infrastructure. However, the leakage and low thermal stability of pristine PCMs along with the complicated synthesis strategies and environmental issues of the supporting materials cause significant drawbacks, thereby requiring a sustainable confining agent.
