A 70-year-old Japanese man with well-controlled diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease was hospitalized for an examination of acute renal failure and elevated inflammatory reactions. He had a history of Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteremia without extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) production five months earlier. The patient was found to have bacteremia due to hypermucoviscous ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae, and developed septic shock, multiple cerebral infarctions, and an abscess in the left masticatory muscle space.

Initial tests ruled out lymphoproliferative disorders, showing reactive hyperplasia and cytomegalovirus. Symptoms worsened after ampicillin treatment, leading to suspected drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome (DIHS).

We analyzed the profiles of adolescent women with suspected PCOS based on the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (JSOG) diagnostic and Rotterdam criteria, excluding those with PCOM.
Methods: Thirteen- to twenty-one-year-old women with suspected or confirmed diagnosis of PCOS according to the JSOG and Rotterdam criteria were included in this study.
The coherent control of the orbital state is crucial for realizing the extremely-low power manipulation of the color centers in diamonds. Herein, a neutrally-charged nitrogen-vacancy center, NV, is proposed as an ideal system for orbital control using electric fields. The electric susceptibility in the ground state of NV is estimated, and found to be comparable to that in the excited state of NV.

In this study, we investigated the relationship between porcine abnormal deliveries and AKAV by serology, pathology, and virology investigations using specimens from 16 stillborn fetuses delivered in southern Japan between 2013 and 2015. The major clinical manifestations in stillborn fetuses were hydranencephaly, arthrogryposis, spinal curvature, and both skeletal muscle and subcutaneous edema.

A 40-year-old woman presented with a fever, erythema, and painful subcutaneous nodules on the trunk. Laboratory data and a bone marrow analysis showed hemophagocytic syndrome.

However, in contrast to this energetic promotion of the theoretical works, empirical verification of the validity of the RI model has not progressed much. Furthermore, to our knowledge, the central assumption of the RI model, that the amount of mutual information obtained from signals adequately represents the cognitive cost of information, has not been tested from a neuroscientific perspective.

These are the homologs of ent-copalyl diphosphate (ent-CDP) synthase and ent-kaurene synthase (KS) that are responsible for the biosynthesis of gibberellins, diterpenoid phytohormones. We isolated a cDNA encoding full-length OsKSL12, a previously uncharacterized KS like (KSL) enzyme that consists of a β-domain and an α-domain with an active center, but lacks an N-terminal γ-domain.

It is caused by dynamic and reversible occlusion of the vertebral artery (VA). Reversible symptoms of rotational vertebrobasilar insufficiency are described as bow hunter's syndrome, although brain infarction is rarely reported as bow hunter's stroke.

This study aimed to investigate the usefulness of an infrared depth sensor device to quantitatively evaluate gait disturbances in patients with movement disorders. 25 ataxic, 25 Parkinson's disease, and 25 control subjects were enrolled and evaluated their walk.

TI value was defined as the sum of drug amounts transported to the basal-side component (X) and drug amounts accumulated in the tissue (T), which are normalized by AUC of a drug in the apical compartment, as an index for drug absorption. Midazolam was used as a test compound for the evaluation of intestinal metabolism and absorption.

However, systematic investigations on the histopathology of EAE have not been performed, and useful histopathological findings for diagnosis of EAE remain unknown.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinicopathological features of EAE.
Background: PCTAIRE1 (also known as cyclin-dependent kinase 16 (Cdk16) and PCTK1) is a Cdk family protein that has been implicated in spermatogenesis. We recently revealed the function of PCTAIRE1 in the tumorigenesis of malignancies, including breast and prostate cancers; however, the tumorigenic function of PCTAIRE1 in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) remains unclear.
Objective: In this study, we investigated the role of PCTAIRE1 in the tumorigenesis of cutaneous SCCs.
