Accelerated Fractionated Radiation Therapy for Localized Glottic Carcinoma.

Background: The aim of this study is to examine the outcomes of an accelerated fractionated irradiation for N0 glottic carcinoma.

Methods: In this retrospective analysis, 29 patients with N0 glottic carcinoma treated by radiation therapy were enrolled. Thirteen patients had T1a disease, six had T1b disease, and ten had T2 disease.

RNAs, such as noncoding RNA, microRNA, and recently mRNA, have been recognized as signal transduction molecules. CD271, also known as nerve growth factor receptor, has a critical role in cancer, although the precise mechanism is still unclear. Here, we show that CD271 mRNA, but not CD271 protein, facilitates spheroid cell proliferation.

Long-term effects of middle ear pressure therapy with the EFET01 device in patients with Ménière's disease and delayed endolymphatic hydrops in Japan.

Background: Long-term efficacy of middle ear pressure therapy (MEPT) with the EFET01 device in patients in Japan with definitive Ménière's disease (MD) and delayed endolymphatic hydrops (DEH) was evaluated.

Objective: To examine the effects of reducing vertigo attacks and improving hearing of MD and DEH patients by using MEPT with the EFET01 device for two years after treatment.

Material And Methods: A retrospective study was conducted of 32 MD patients and 2 DEH patients treated by MEPT with the EFET01 device from December 2018 to April 2021.

In this study, we screened transcription factors and found that RELA (p65), a subunit of nuclear factor kappaB (NF-κB), is critical for CD271 transcription in cancer cells.

Extruders are necessary equipment for 3D filament manufacturing, which is considered a clean technology because it has less scrap and can reuse materials, increasing its life cycle. Open source extruders are less expensive than industrial extruders. A novel middle ear pressure device, the EFET01, which requires no transtympanic ventilation tubes, was developed in Japan, approved by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and has been used under Japanese national health insurance since September 2018.

Objectives: To examine short-term therapeutic effect of MEPT using the ETET01 compared with previous clinical trial results.

Surface pressure (π)-area (A) isotherms were studied to analyze the interactions between a hydrophilic ionic liquid (IL) (ethyl(2-hydroxyethyl)dimethylammonium methanesulfonate) and a pure dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) film or a DPPC-cholesterol mixed film. When the hydrophilic IL was added to an underlayer solution, the isotherm shifted toward higher areas. Intriguingly, when the hydrophilic IL was added, the packing of the film materials became loose and the elastic modulus decreased, resulting in increased flexibility.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate actual skeletal muscle mass change and factors associated with its increase in patients aged ≥80 years undergoing hip fracture rehabilitation.

Methods: This case-control study was conducted in the rehabilitation hospital. Participants were 368 patients aged ≥80 years undergoing hip fracture rehabilitation.

Early enteral nutrition after head and neck surgery with free tissue transfer reconstruction.

Objective: Early enteral nutrition is essential for enhancing recovery after surgery. However, to date, no detailed study has been conducted on the feasibility of early enteral nutrition in patients undergoing head and neck surgery with free tissue transfer reconstruction (HNS-FTTR) and the risk factors for difficulty with early enteral nutrition.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 102 patients who underwent HNS-FTTR at our institution; 61 underwent free jejunal reconstruction (FJ) and 41 did not.

The concentrations of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), three fragrance compounds (OTNE, HHCB and AHTN) and triclosan were determined in the initial sewage sludge and in compost over the span of 1year.

We have developed butanol-producing consolidated bioprocessing from cellulosic substrates through coculture of cellulolytic clostridia and butanol-producing strain N1-4. However, the butanol fermentation by strain N1-4 (which has an optimal growth temperature of 30°C) is sensitive to the higher cultivation temperature of 37°C; the nature of this deleterious effect remains unclear. Comparison of the intracellular metabolites of strain N1-4 cultivated at 30°C and 37°C revealed decreased levels of multiple primary metabolites (notably including nucleic acids and cofactors) during growth at the higher temperature.

TBP-like protein (TLP) is one of the metazoan-restricted transcription factors participating in development and differentiation, though the molecular mechanism by which TLP regulates these processes remains unclear. Campylobacter jejuni, one of the most common causes of gastroenteritis worldwide, is transmitted to humans through poultry. We previously reported that Lactobacillus gasseri SBT2055 (LG2055) reduced C. jejuni infection in human epithelial cells in vitro and inhibited pathogen colonization of chickens in vivo.

Butanol production from alkali-pretreated rice straw by co-culture of Clostridium thermocellum and Clostridium saccharoperbutylacetonicum.

HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) are one of major comorbidities in patients with HIV-1 infection. There are currently no standardized tests for screening HAND in such patients. The sensitivity of the cognitive function tests routinely used in clinical practice, such as the Mini-Mental State Examination and the Revised Hasegawa's Dementia Scale, is inadequate to rule out HAND, even in patients with clear abnormal behavior.

We isolated 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP)-resistant sake yeast strains by UV mutagenesis. Among the DNP-resistant mutants, we focused on strains exhibiting high malic acid and low acetic acid production. Decreased hydrogen production leads to selective butanol production in co-cultures of Clostridium thermocellum and Clostridium saccharoperbutylacetonicum strain N1-4.
