Purpose: Extracellular Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) released by dying cells may cause a secondary cell death in neighboring cells in retinal degeneration. We investigated intraocular ATP kinetics to gain mechanical insights into the pathology in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).
Study Design: Retrospective clinical study.
Introduction: Perioperative visual loss (POVL) owing to hemi-retinal vein occlusion (HRVO) following prone positioning during spinal surgery is rare. Here, we report a case of HRVO with macular edema (ME) after spinal surgery that was successfully treated with intravitreal aflibercept (IVA) injections and retinal photocoagulation (RP).
Case Presentation: A 63-year-old Japanese man underwent spinal surgery for lumbar spinal canal stenosis.
A multi-functional sensing system based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) phenomenon using a square glass rod with two gold-deposited adjacent faces was developed in this work. This sensor system consists of a unpolarized light-emitting diode, a gold-deposited square glass rod, a polarizing beam splitter, and two photodiodes. The SPR responses of two adjacent faces are independently and simultaneously measured with a polarizing beam splitter and two PDs.

Only a small subset of eyes with chronic CSC develops into the bullous variant of CSC (bCSC). In patients with bCSC, the elevated concentration of fibrin in the subretinal space leads to persistent retinal detachment and eventually, severe vision loss.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFRetinitis pigmentosa (RP) is an intractable inherited disease that primarily affects the rods through gene mutations followed by secondary cone degeneration. This cone-related dysfunction can lead to impairment of daily life activities, and ultimately blindness in patients with RP. Paradoxically, microglial neuroinflammation contributes to both protection against and progression of RP, but it is unclear which population(s) - tissue-resident microglia and/or peripheral monocyte-derived macrophages (mφ) - are implicated in the progression of the disease.

Nutrients derived from the blood meal are utilized by female ticks to synthesize the yolk protein precursor vitellogenin (Vg). Engorged Ornithodoros moubata ticks can synthesize Vg whether mated or virgin, thus O.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data of RP patients at Kyushu University Hospital. We included patients who showed a treatment response to 1.
The objective of the present study was to assess the productivity of pigs to investigate the time-dependent change in productivity and compare productivity according to breeding company group and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) status on commercial swine farms in southern Kyushu, Japan. Data used in the present study were 245 annual productivity records from 2014 to 2018 obtained from 72 farms. Average sow inventory was 481.

Purpose: Retinal degeneration involves neuroinflammation, and pro-inflammatory cytokines/chemokines are markedly increased in the eyes of patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP). In this study, we investigated the changes of serum cytokines/chemokines in RP, and their relationships with visual parameters.
Methods: Forty-five consecutive patients with typical RP aged 20 to -39 years and 28 age-matched and gender-matched controls were included.
Perceptron is an essential element in neural network (NN)-based machine learning, however, the effectiveness of various implementations by circuits is rarely demonstrated from chip testing. This paper presents the measured silicon results for the analog perceptron circuits fabricated in a 0.6 μm/±2.

Purpose: To investigate the association between aqueous flare and progression of visual field loss using the Humphrey Field Analyzer in patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
Methods: We examined a total of 101 eyes of 101 patients who were diagnosed with typical RP. Sixty-one percent of the patients were female, and the mean age of the total group was 47.

New insights into the stability and reactivity of gold oxides under these conditions were obtained.

Methods: Fifty-two RP patients <40 years old and 25 controls were included. Serum samples were analyzed for superoxide dismutase 3 (SOD3) activity, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), potential antioxidant (PAO), and hexanoyl-lysine (HEL).
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the characteristics of the parafoveal cone density changes in patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) using adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (AO-SLO).
Methods: A total of 14 eyes of RP patients and 10 eyes of control subjects were examined. High-resolution images of cone photoreceptor cells were obtained with a Canon AO-SLO system in the four retinal regions of the superior, inferior, temporal, and nasal areas located 1.
Purpose: From an early stage, retinitis pigmentosa (RP) patients suffer from night blindness which causes nocturnal mobility difficulties. We created a wearable visual aid that uses a high-performance see-through display, and added a high-sensitivity camera with a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor sensor. Here, we evaluate the device's efficacy for helping night-blindness sufferers walk in the dark.

Therefore, the objective of the present study was to assess the effects of outside temperature on farrowing rate by using a multivariate logistic regression model. Data were obtained from 25 commercial farms, including 26,128 service records for gilts and 120,655 service records for sows.

Hydrocarbons and gasoline present in the engine oil penetrate through the porous Teflon layer and accumulate in the PEG thiol layer, and are then detected using the SPR sensor. The refractivities of the selective layers that contain a hydrocarbon on the Au-deposited glass rod sensor were estimated from the sensor responses when using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with various operating wavelengths as light sources.

Purpose: To accelerate the development of new therapies, an inherited retinal degeneration model in a nonhuman primate would be useful to confirm the efficacy in preclinical studies. In this study, we describe the discovery of retinitis pigmentosa in a cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis) pedigree.
Methods: First, screening with fundus photography was performed on 1443 monkeys at the Tsukuba Primate Research Center.
While many bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis, harbour a single-copy chromosome, freshwater cyanobacteria have multiple copies of each chromosome per cell. Although it has been reported that multi-copy chromosomes are evenly distributed along the major axis of the cell in cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942, the distribution mechanism of these chromosomes remains unclear. Here, we investigated the relationship between serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and visual parameters in RP.
