The amounts of DA that accumulated in AtT-20 cells expressing these human TH type 1 (hTH1) phenotypes were in the following order: del-52 = del-157 = RR-EE > S40D > wildtype, although the enzyme activities of del-52 and del-157 were lower than those of wildtype, RR-EE, and S40D. The observation on immunoblot analyses that the N-terminus-deleted hTH1 mutants were much more stable than wildtype can reconcile the discrepant results.

Objective: We have used artificial chordal replacement with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene sutures for mitral valve repair in children and reported favorable early clinical results. In this article we evaluate the midterm results of mitral valve repair with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene sutures in 39 children.
Methods: From April 1995 through September 2003, mitral valve repair with chordal replacement using expanded polytetrafluoroethylene sutures was performed in 39 patients.
Background: Useful markers of bone resorption are needed for hemodialysis patients with renal osteodystrophy. This study investigated the use of a new immunoassay for cross-linked N-terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen to assess bone changes in hemodialysis patients.
Methods: Radial bone mineral density was examined in 178 hemodialysis patients at baseline and after 12 months.
The adaptation of death-feigning (thanatosis), a subject that has been overlooked in evolutionary biology, was inferred in a model prey-and-predator system. We studied phenotypic variation among individuals, fitness differences, and the inheritance of death-feigning behaviour in the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae). Two-way artificial selections for the duration of death-feigning, over 10 generations, showed a clear direct response in the trait and a correlated response in the frequency of death-feigning, thus indicating variation and inheritance of death-feigning behaviour.

A simple and rapid assay is described for the simultaneous analysis of levodopa (l-DOPA) and 3-O-methyldopa (3-OMD) in human plasma samples, applying an ion-pair reversed-phase liquid chromatographic method with electrochemical detection, designed for clinical trials performed to study the effect of peripheral catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitors on the metabolism of l-DOPA. This report describes 3 aged patients undergoing emergent surgery who refused elective operation for a thoracic aortic aneurysm because of freedom from symptoms attributable to the aneurysm at the time of presentation. A 77-year-old woman with a thoracoabdominal aneurysm 57 mm in diameter at presentation had recurrent hemoptysis 12 months later. A 78-year-old man with a saccular type distal arch aneurysm 64 mm in diameter at presentation was transported with shock and hemothorax 27 months later.
