Background/aim: The association between clinical outcomes and posttreatment changes in the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and neutrophil-to-eosinophil ratio (NER) in patients receiving avelumab maintenance therapy for advanced urothelial carcinoma (UC) is unclear.
Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from advanced UC patients who received avelumab and had not progressed with first-line platinum-based chemotherapy. The association between the changes in NLR and NER from pretreatment to week 6 of avelumab treatment and therapeutic efficacy was evaluated.
Objective: To optimize workplace health promotion, a simple method for quantifying allostatic load response is needed. This study examines the feasibility of optimizing objective anxiety and presenteeism monitoring using daily smartwatch-measured ultra-short heart rate variability (HRV).
Methods: Office workers without diagnosed disease prospectively performed 30 s HRV self-measurement each morning for two months and responded to the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Work Limitation Questionnaire (WLQ).
Background And Objective: This study aims to define specific measurements on cranial high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) images prior to surgery to prove the feasibility of the navigated transmastoid infralabyrinthine approach (TI-A) without rerouting of the facial nerve (FN) and decompression of the jugular bulb (JB) in accessing the extradural-intrapetrous part of petrous bone lesions located at the petrous apex and petroclival junction.
Materials And Methods: Vertical and horizontal distances of the infralabyrinthine space were measured on cranial HRCT images prior to dissection. Subsequently, the area of access was measured on dissected human cadaveric specimens.
Background: Local alternating heat and cold stimulation as an alternative to contrast bath may cause intermittent vasoconstriction and vasodilation, inducing a vascular pumping effect and consequently promoting increased tissue blood flow and oxygenation. This study aimed to examine the effects of local alternating heat and cold stimulation, using a wearable thermal device, on the hemodynamics of fatigued muscle tissue and autonomic nervous activity.
Methods: Twenty healthy individuals experienced fatigue in the periarticular muscles of the shoulder joint due to a typing task.
The study investigates the potential of porous scaffolds with Gel/Alg-IGF-1 coatings as a viable candidate for orthopaedic implants. The scaffolds are composed of additively manufactured Ti6Al4V lattices, which were treated in an alkali solution to obtain the anatase and rutile phases. The treated surface exhibited hydrophilicity of <11.

Strong electron-acceptors with low-lying lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels are a crucial unit for donor-acceptor (D-A) π-conjugated polymers (CPs) with the NIR-II emission property, however, limited kinds of molecular skeletons are still available. Herein, D-A CPs involving fluorinated boron-fused azobenzene complexes (BAz) with enhanced electron-accepting properties are reported.

The system is also equipped with artificial intelligence that superimposes and displays depressed areas, generates an automatic small bowel centerline that connects fragmented small bowel regions, and performs electronic cleansing. We retrospectively evaluated the diagnostic performance of this system for small bowel lesions in Crohn's disease, which were divided into two groups: endoscopically-observable and endoscopically-unobservable.

Adult granulosa cell tumors have late recurrences, for which complete resection is an effective option. We report a patient who underwent complete resection of a huge recurrent adult granulosa cell tumor after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFamilial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is a heritable disease that increases the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) development because of heterozygous mutations in APC. Little is known about the microenvironment of FAP. Here, single-cell RNA sequencing was performed on matched normal tissues, adenomas, and carcinomas from four patients with FAP.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA 66-year-old man was initially suspected of having a microcystic serous cystic neoplasm based on magnetic resonance imaging findings of a multifocal mass measuring 46 mm in the pancreatic head, with a cystic component showing a high signal on T2-weighted images. The tumor marker levels were within normal limits. However, contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed thick cyst walls with delayed staining, which was atypical for serous cystic neoplasms; therefore, the patient was followed up closely.

BWS presents with a variety of clinical features, including overgrowth and an increased risk of embryonal tumors.

Determining changes in muscle size and architecture after exercise training: One site does not fit all. J Strength Cond Res 38(4): 787-790, 2024-Different methods can be used to assess muscle hypertrophy, but the effects of training on regional changes in muscle size can be detected only using direct muscle measurements such as muscle thickness, cross-sectional area, or volume.

Thirty-nine (23 male/16 female) physically active and healthy participants volunteered in this study. After a standardized warm-up, the PMc stiffness was tested via shear wave elastography at a slightly stretched position (long muscle length) and in a non-stretched position (short muscle length).

Oxide formation and reduction on such electrodes must be comprehensively understood to achieve next-generation electrocatalysts with outstanding performance and stability. Herein, the initial electrochemical oxidation of Pt(111) in alkaline media containing hydrophilic and hydrophobic cations is investigated by X-ray crystal truncation rod (CTR) scattering, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and nanoparticle-based surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS).

H2b3b is one of the histone H2b isoforms that differs from canonical H2b by five to six amino acids. Previously, we identified H3t as the testis-specific histone H3 variant located in histone cluster 3, which is also the site of H2b3b. In this study, we produced monoclonal antibodies against H2b3b, using the iliac rat lymph node method for rat antibody and the immunochamber method for rabbit antibody.

Case Presentation: We report on the case of a 58-year-old male patient who presented with progressive bilateral nasal obstruction, left-sided epiphora, and intermittent epistaxis. Computed tomography revealed a soft tissue opacity in the left maxillary sinus with intersinusoidal nasal wall demineralization, extending into the surrounding ethmoid cells and the right nasal cavity through a contralateral deviation of the nasal septum.
The purpose of this study was to compare roller skiing economy during different training phases in Nordic combined (NC) athletes and determine the aerobic and anaerobic factors responsible for changes in skiing economy. Seven elite NC athletes underwent incremental load tests on a large buried treadmill in both spring and autumn using roller skis. Measurements included oxygen uptake, respiratory exchange ratio, and blood lactate concentration.

Streamline analysis showed disappearance of antegrade flow in the false lumen of the descending aorta and attenuation of intermittent flap-induced disruption of visceral vessel perfusion after entry coverage. Quantitative analysis showed endovascular repair increased perfusion volume of the coeliac artery and superior mesenteric artery by 55.
