Spinal deformities, including adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) and adult spinal deformity (ASD), affect many patients. The measurement of the Cobb angle on coronal radiographs is essential for their diagnosis and treatment planning. To enhance the precision of Cobb angle measurements for both AIS and ASD, we developed three distinct artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms: AIS/ASD-trained AI (trained with both AIS and ASD cases); AIS-trained AI (trained solely on AIS cases); ASD-trained AI (trained solely on ASD cases).

Article Synopsis
  • Enhanced glucose metabolism, particularly involving the enzyme G6PD, plays a crucial role in cancer, with low G6PD expression linked to stronger anti-tumor immune responses.
  • Testing conducted on melanoma cells and mice demonstrated that inhibiting G6PD induced immunogenic cell death and boosted the effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).
  • Clinical data from melanoma and lung cancer patients revealed that those with lower G6PD levels had a significantly better prognosis following ICI treatment, indicating the potential of G6PD inhibition as a therapeutic approach in cancer treatment.

Introduction: Recently, the detection of superficial non-ampullary duodenal epithelial tumors (SNADETs) including adenomas and superficial duodenal carcinomas has increased. Various endoscopic treatment methods have also been reported for SNADETs, but there are few reports on the natural history. The aim of this study was to analyze factors related to tumor growth and determine the characteristics of SNADETs which need early therapeutic intervention.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of particle beam therapy (PT) versus photon radiotherapy (RT) for treating skull base chordoma, analyzing data from 1990 to 2022 on overall and progression-free survival, adverse events, and other relevant factors.
  • - Results from 30 articles indicated that PT had better 5-year progression-free survival rates (67.8%) than photon RT (40.2%), but overall survival rates were similar, with PT showing no significant advantage.
  • - The findings suggest that while PT is more effective in preventing disease progression, it also carries a higher risk of brain necrosis compared to photon RT, highlighting the need for further studies to confirm these results.
