Background: Although schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are currently conceptualized as distinct disorders, the similarity in their symptoms often makes differential diagnosis difficult. This study aimed to identify similarities and differences in the symptoms of schizophrenia and ASD to establish a more useful and objective differential diagnostic method and to identify ASD traits in participants with schizophrenia.

Methods: A total of 40 participants with schizophrenia (13 females, mean age: 34 ± 11 years) and 50 participants with ASD (15 females, mean age: 34 ± 8 years) were evaluated using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) and other clinical measures.

Dendropsophusis one of the most species-rich genera of hylid treefrogs. Recent studies integrating Sanger-generated mitochondrial and nuclear loci with phenomic characters (SP) have advanced understanding of this clade, but questions about its internal relationships and biogeographic history persist. To address these questions, we used anchored hybrid enrichment (AHE) to combine 432 nuclear loci for 78 taxa (72 % of species) with published data.

Unlabelled: New cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs), such as leadless pacemakers and subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillators (S-ICDs), are being used in patients with adult congenital heart disease. The selection of CIEDs often requires careful consideration due to technical challenges posed by a unique heart structure. A 27-year-old man following a surgical tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) repair developed non-sustained ventricular tachycardia, sick sinus syndrome, and complete atrioventricular block.

Although the anatomical arrangement of brain regions and the functional structures within them are similar across individuals, the representation of neural information, such as recorded brain activity, varies among individuals owing to various factors. Therefore, appropriate conversion and translation of brain information is essential when decoding neural information using a model trained using another person's data or to achieving brain-to-brain communication. We propose a brain representation transfer method that involves transforming a data representation obtained from one person's brain into that obtained from another person's brain, without relying on corresponding label information between the transferred datasets.

Article Synopsis
  • Male frogs use specific calls to attract mates and avoid competition, with their call characteristics influenced by their size and environment.
  • The acoustic adaptation hypothesis suggests that frogs evolve their calls to improve their reach and clarity in their habitats.
  • Research on Neotropical treefrogs revealed a significant relationship between body size and call frequency, but did not support the AAH claims linking calls to environmental factors, suggesting other influences like female choice may play a role.

Localization to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and subsequent disulfide bond formation are crucial processes governing the biogenesis of secretory pathway proteins in eukaryotes. Hence, comprehending the mechanisms underlying these processes is important. Here, we have engineered firefly luciferase (FLuc) as a tool to detect deficiencies in these processes within mammalian cells.

Background: When transcatheter aortic valve-in-surgical aortic valve (TAV-in-SAV) is considered as a secondary interventional option, it is desirable to estimate the risk of coronary obstruction during future TAV-in-SAV before the initial surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR), for which knowledge of the anatomic changes after SAVR is essential. We investigated the changes in the aortic root and evaluated the differences in changes between valve types.

Methods: Pre- and post-SAVR computed tomography scans of 124 patients with aortic stenosis who underwent SAVR with various bioprosthetic valves were analyzed retrospectively.

Article Synopsis
  • - Three elderly female patients exhibited neurological symptoms: Patient 1 had weakness/numbness, Patient 2 experienced speech difficulties, and Patient 3 had trouble with speech planning.
  • - Although transient ischemic attack (TIA) was considered, all had prior head trauma, and MRI scans showed subdural hematomas and sulcal hyperintensity in related brain areas.
  • - Patients 1 and 2 recovered without treatment, while Patient 3 required antiseizure medication, suggesting that the neurological deficits caused by the hematomas differ from those caused by TIA.

Current-driven dynamics of topological spin textures, such as skyrmions and antiskyrmions, have garnered considerable attention in condensed matter physics and spintronics. As compared with skyrmions, the current-driven dynamics of their antiparticles - antiskyrmions - remain less explored due to the increased complexity of antiskyrmions. Here, we design and employ fabricated microdevices of a prototypical antiskyrmion host, (FeNiPd)P, to allow in situ current application with Lorentz transmission electron microscopy observations.

Background: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a potentially efficient therapeutic intervention for superficial esophageal cancer. Additional treatment such as chemoradiotherapy (CRT) or esophagectomy is recommended in cases of muscularis mucosa invasion with positive resection margins or lymphovascular invasion or submucosal layer invasion, which are considered noncurative ESD, due to an increased risk of lymph node metastasis. However, the adequacy of additional CRT after near-circumferential or full-circumferential noncurative ESD has not been fully discussed.
