Article Synopsis
  • Metal oxide nanoparticles (MONPs), like ZnO and CuO, are commonly used in agriculture but their effects on human health, especially in cancer cells, are not well understood.
  • In experiments with thyroid cancer cells, exposure to CuO and ZnO significantly reduced cell viability, which was linked to increased apoptosis rather than oxidative stress.
  • RNA sequencing revealed that various signaling pathways related to inflammation and cell adhesion were altered, indicating that different cellular mechanisms contribute to cell death caused by these nanoparticles.
