Longitudinal weight records for 360 boys and 345 girls from birth to young adulthood are used. The Count-Gompertz growth curve is fitted to individual growth records in order to characterize individual body weight growth. The authors present the mean-constant growth curves of boys and girls divided by weight at the peak weight velocity for boys and girls, and also girls are subdivided by their weight at menarche.

Spontaneous formation of the polypeptides occurs in the mono- and multilayers at room temperature without any catalyst. The rates of polycondensation in the monolayers are markedly influenced by the degree of molecular packing.

Lung is the most common site of involvement, and patients usually present with dyspnea, chest pain, and cough. Chylous pleural effusion and ascites occasionally appear during the course of the disease.

Using an electron microscope and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microspectroscopy, we studied the lattice images of crystallites of dental calculus to demonstrate the presence of the central dark line (CDL) in its crystallite and to compare this CDL with that of bone and synthetic hydroxyapatite crystals. Ultrastructural observations revealed clearly a number of crystallites, which displayed a proper lattice image and CDL similar to that of bone, in the dental calculus. FTIR microspectroscopy revealed that the dental calculus displayed a set of major spectra analogous to that of bone.

To clarify the role of histamine H1 receptors in allergic conjunctivitis, changes in vascular permeability of the conjunctiva were measured in histamine H1 receptor deficient mice. Wild-type mice showed a significant increase in vascular permeability of the conjunctiva induced by histamine. However, no such increase was found in histamine H1 receptor deficient mice.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Mammograms of patients with asymptomatic breast cancerwere examined retrospectively. A total of 260 screening mammograms from 65 patients (bilateral cranio-caudal and medio-lateral-oblique views from each) were tested by using the CAD system (ImageChecker M1000 system, R2 Technology, Los Altos, CA, USA).

The sway of the center of gravity for 30 seconds with a stabilometer was examined in 30 volunteers under 3 visual conditions (eyes open with and without fixation and eyes closed) at heights of 0, 1, and 2 m and under 2 visual conditions (eyes open with fixation and eyes closed) at a height of 10 m 22 cm. Eight of the subjects had acrophobia. The sway worsened at 10 m 22 cm but showed no change at 1 or 2 m.

A 41-year-old male underwent ileotransverse anastomosis following a diagnosis of ileus due to unresectable colon cancer with peritoneal dissemination and multiple liver metastases. He was treated weekly with an intravenous infusion of 5-FU, 1,000 mg/body/24 hours and an oral administration of UFT 400 mg/day (PMC).

The authors examined a 35-year-old man who had multifocal osteonecrosis on the right and left femoral heads, left humeral head, and right scaphoid. The patient previously had a diagnosis of Type I congenital antithrombin III deficiency but had no other risk factors for osteonecrosis. This patient was thought to have systemic thromboembolism because of the increased blood coagulability resulting from antithrombin III deficiency.

Topical application of both drugs inhibited dose-dependently the increase of nasal symptoms (sneezing and nasal rubbing) after antigen challenge to the nasal cavity of actively sensitized rats. Mometasone furoate and fluticasone propionate at concentrations of 0.

A number of reports have characterized cetirizine as a potent histamine H1-receptor antagonist possessing inhibitory effects on eosinophil chemotaxis. In clinical pharmacological tests, cetirizine markedly reduced wheal and flare responses induced by histamines. The inhibition was fast onset, potent and long-lasting.

Materials And Methods: Composite three-dimensional models of a maxillary first premolar were fabricated for quasi-three-dimensional photoelastic stress analysis. Individual materials were used to model enamel, dentin, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone.
We report a new experimental allergic conjunctivitis with Japanese cedar pollen as antigen in guinea pigs, and the immunological characteristics of this model were also elucidated. Allergic conjunctivitis was developed by immunization in guinea pigs with a mixture containing Japanese cedar pollen and killed Bordetella pertussis. When local application of Japanese cedar pollen suspension 14 d after systemic immunization was performed every 3d, remarkable conjunctivitis was observed from 20 to 35 d.

The first gyrus of the right Heschl was identified, and a serial perpendicular cut to the gyrus was made. PV-immunoreactive neuropils delineated four zones, as have been described in monkeys.

Introduction of a hydroxyl group, as in compound 5, resulted in good solubility in water and a long duration of action compared with the parent compound 1. Introduction of a nitrato group, as in compound 8, produced typical nitrate activity such as exhibited by nitroglycerine in addition to potassium channel-activating activity.

Brain metastasis from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a rare, yet perplexing problem in patients with cancer. We report on 5 patients with metastasis of HCC to the brain after radical hepatectomy. Intrahepatic recurrence occurred in 3 patients, and distant metastasis to sites other than the brain was observed in 3 patients (lung, 2; bone, 1).

Because OPMN from newborn babies are exposed to colostrum and mature milk, the biological properties of these cells including the generation of reactive oxygen species might possibly be affected by the constituents of colostrum and milk. The present work reports the effects of colostrum and mature milk, including the effects of storage at low temperature, on superoxide generation by OPMN.

We performed percutaneous microwave coagulation therapy (PMCT) for 34 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients, including 18 primary and 16 recurrent HCC ones. Cumulative 1, 2-, 3- and 4-year survival rates of primary HCC patients were 94, 78, 78% and 62%, respectively, while those of recurrent HCC patients were 100, 79, 62% and 41%, respectively. There were no differences between groups.
