Focal cortical dysplasias (FCDs) are local malformations of the human neocortex and a leading cause of intractable epilepsy. FCDs are classified into different subtypes including FCD IIa and IIb, characterized by a blurred gray-white matter boundary or a transmantle sign indicating abnormal white matter myelination. Recently, we have shown that myelination is also compromised in the gray matter of FCD IIa of the temporal lobe.

Background: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage frequently complicates endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal pituitary resections, despite the use of lumbar drains, nasoseptal flaps, or commercial dura sealants. Managing this complication often requires revision surgery and increases the risk of infection. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), an affordable autologous biomaterial derived from the patient's blood through short, angulated centrifugation, contains growth factors and leukocytes embedded in a fibrin matrix.

  • - Edoxaban, a factor Xa inhibitor, is usually metabolized into an active metabolite called M-4, which has minimal antithrombotic effects in healthy individuals; however, certain conditions can elevate its plasma concentration significantly.
  • - A 68-year-old man with pancreatic cancer was prescribed edoxaban along with rifampin and clarithromycin for lung disease but developed acute kidney injury after surgery, leading to unusually high levels of M-4 in his system.
  • - This case highlights the potential for increased M-4 levels in patients with kidney issues who are taking edoxaban alongside drugs that affect its metabolism, suggesting that these combinations could be more clinically impactful than previously understood.

In this study, we prepared antifog hard coatings by heating a mixture of carboxy-functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS-C) and oligo(ethylene glycol)s (OEGs, HO(CHCHO) H, = 1-6) in ,-dimethylformamide, applying the mixture onto a glass substrate, and subsequently removing the solvent via heating. In addition, we evaluated the water resistance, hardness, and antifogging performance of the coatings. In particular, the coating produced at a 2:1 functional group ratio of POSS-C to tetraethylene glycol (OEG, = 4) coating exhibited high surface hardness (6H), as determined using pencil scratch testing.

Background: The antifibrotic agents pirfenidone and nintedanib have been shown to be effective in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). However, discontinuation of antifibrotic drugs is a major clinical concern because of the lack of alternative treatment options. Therefore, we identified factors that may be useful for predicting the termination of antifibrotic agents.

  • This study compared the image quality of two types of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) techniques: echo planar imaging with compressed sensing-sensitivity encoding (EPICS-DWI) and conventional parallel imaging (PI-DWI) in healthy volunteers.
  • Results showed that EPICS-DWI produced significantly higher signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) and better overall image quality at acceleration factors of 3 and 4 when compared to PI-DWI, although there were no significant differences in apparent diffusion coefficients (ADC) between the two methods.
  • Despite EPICS-DWI showing improved quality, it also displayed a higher degree of image distortion at lower acceleration factors, indicating that optimal parameter settings are crucial for achieving the best imaging results.
