Two Cases of Anterior Shoulder Dislocation and Fracture Secondary to Generalized Tonic-Clonic Seizure.

Dislocation of the glenohumeral joint secondary to generalized tonic-clonic seizures is well documented in the medical literature, with posterior dislocation being most commonly described. Still, these occurrences tend to be rare and affect a minority of patients, and fractures associated with dislocations after seizures are even less common. As such, the management of these injuries tends to be quite varied, and there is a paucity of documented cases in the literature.

Extensor Mechanism Ruptures and Reruptures: Perioperative Opioid Management.

The purpose of this study was to determine (1) the correlation between preoperative and postoperative opioid use and (2) risk factors associated with rerupture in patients undergoing open extensor mechanism repair. A retrospective review of patients who underwent operative repair of quadriceps or patellar tendon rupture was performed. Patients were classified as opioid nonusers if they had not received any opioid medications in the 3 months before surgery, or as acute users or chronic users if they received at least one opioid prescription within 1 month or 3 months preceding surgery.

Comparison of Tendon Lengthening With Traditional Versus Accelerated Rehabilitation After Achilles Tendon Repair: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Early weightbearing protocols after Achilles tendon repair promote mobilization, yet little is known about their effect on tendon lengthening.

Purpose: To evaluate tendon lengthening after Achilles tendon repair with accelerated rehabilitation.

Ten- and 20-year Survivorship of the Hip After Periacetabular Osteotomy for Acetabular Dysplasia.

Introduction: Acetabular dysplasia is a multifactorial condition characterized by a shallow hip socket with predisposition to osteoarthritis of the hip. The Bernese periacetabular osteotomy (PAO), developed by Reinhold Ganz in 1984, reorients the dysplastic hip joint to provide more uniform coverage of the femoral head and to extend the longevity of the native hip. Since 1987, the senior author performed the Bernese PAO on more than 430 patients.
