Artemisinin and its main active metabolite dihydroartemisinin, clinically used antimalarial agents with low host toxicity, have recently shown potent anticancer activities in a variety of human cancer models. Although iron mediated oxidative damage is involved, the mechanisms underlying these activities remain unclear. In the current study, we found that dihydroartemisinin caused cellular iron depletion in time- and concentration-dependent manners.

As a homologue of bisphenol A (BPA), there is concern about the potential reproductive and developmental toxicity of bisphenol AF (BPAF) based on in vitro tests. In this study, a simple and universal analytical method was developed for the determination of trace BPAF in various tissues and excreta of rats after they were orally dosed. The samples were hydrolyzed with glucuronidase/arylsulfatase followed by ultrasonic extraction with acetonitrile.

A perfluorodecyl modified silica monolithic capillary column has been prepared by using sol-gel method. The preparation steps included hydrolysis of alkoxy silane, fasculation of silanol, gelation, aging, meso-pore preparation, drying and surface modification. It could be used as a solid phase extraction (SPE) microcolumn for extraction and enrichment of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS).

Human breast milk samples collected from mothers (n=110) who lived in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, southwestern China in 2009 were analyzed to determine the concentrations of 13 musk compounds. Possible relationships between musk concentrations and some personal characteristics were also studied. Only five target analytes were detected in the milk samples analyzed, with median concentration values of 16.

Novel sample preparation approaches for HPLC bioanalysis based on the phenomenon that acetonitrile can be separated from water by adding salts or cooling at subzero temperatures have been reported. These two methods are superior to conventional liquid-liquid extraction since the separated acetonitrile phase can be directly injected to the RP-LC system. However, the salting-out method suffers from a potential problem that the remained salt in the acetonitrile phase may harm the MS detector, while the subzero-temperature method is troublesome to operate.

A homogenous complement-mediated liposome immune lysis assay (LILA) was developed for the determination of enrofloxacin (ENRO) in carp and chicken muscle. ENRO was covalently coupled to DPPE, and then immobilized onto the surface of liposomes by reverse-phase evaporation method. The performed liposome would be specifically lysed by the sequential additions of anti-ENRO monoclonal antibody (MAb) and guinea pig complement.
