Ultra high performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry screening and mutagenicity evaluation of photodegradation products of Carmoisine (E122) dye in a beverage.

The present study deals with the separation and identification of the photodegradation products formed when a commercial soft drink containing Carmoisine (E122) dye was exposed to natural sunlight. An ultra high performance liquid chromatography with quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry method was developed and validated to identify the unknown species of E122. During the study, it was observed that the dye decolourizes rapidly in beverage when compared to model standard solutions.

Use of Indigenous Decellularized Valved Xenograft Conduit for Double-Barrel Right Ventricular Outflow Tract Reconstruction: Nine-Year Follow-Up.

Over the last two decades, numerous conduit options and implantation techniques have been described for right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) reconstruction in the management of tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) with hypoplastic pulmonary annulus. The limited availability of homografts and the cost factor have led us to explore the use of decellularized xenografts as an alternative. Here we present a nine-year follow-up of an adult patient with TOF with hypoplastic pulmonary annulus, who underwent reconstruction of the RVOT by the double-barrel technique, using a decellularized porcine pulmonary artery xenograft valved conduit.

Methods for the analysis of azo dyes employed in food industry--A review.

A wide variety of azo dyes are generally added for coloring food products not only to make them visually aesthetic but also to reinstate the original appearance lost during the production process. However, many countries in the world have banned the use of most of the azo dyes in food and their usage is highly regulated by domestic and export food supplies. The regulatory authorities and food analysts adopt highly sensitive and selective analytical methods for monitoring as well as assuring the quality and safety of food products.

Quantification of 17-desacetyl norgestimate in human plasma by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and its application to bioequivalence study.

A rapid and sensitive ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method was developed and validated for the estimation of 17-desacetyl norgestimate in human plasma using solid-phase extraction technique. 17-desacetyl norgestimate D6 was used as the internal standard. Simple gradient chromatographic conditions and mass spectrometric detection enabled accurate and precise measurement of 17-desacetyl norgestimate at sub-picogram levels.

Congenital complete heart block in Klippel-Feil syndrome.

A 36-year-old man with a short neck, low hairline, and mild kyphoscoliosis, presented with history of syncope. Chest radiography revealed a diaphragmatic hernia. Computed tomography demonstrated fusion of C2-C6 vertebral bodies, Electrocardiography indicated complete heart block.

Single lung transplantation in India: an initial experience.

The science of lung transplantation has evolved from an experimental procedure, to be accepted as a legitimate mainstream therapy for patients with end-stage pulmonary disease. Now lung transplantation offers patients with end-stage lung disease acceptable quality of life and matches a 5-year survival rate of other solid organ transplants. In the present report, we present our initial experience in performing two single lung transplantations done in our centre.

A clinical study on glucosamine sulfate versus combination of glucosamine sulfate and NSAIDs in mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis.

Background: Glucosamine may be effective in treating and possibly slowing the progression of Osteoarthritis (OA). It is believed Glucosamine supplements may help to stop cartilage breakdown, build cartilage and decrease swelling.

Objective: The objective of this study was glucosamine sulfate versus combination of glucosamine sulfate and Non-Steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) in mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis.

Aneurysm of sinus of Valsalva: uncommon presentation.

A 28-year-old man presented with acute onset of chest pain. Transthoracic echocardiography confirmed an aneurysm of the sinus of Valsalva dissecting into the interventricular septum. During the next 12 h, the aneurysm enlarged to involve the entire interventricular septum, and the patient developed features of cardiac tamponade.

Left main disease associated with an anomalous left anterior descending artery.

Background: Coronary artery anomalies are very rare. Recognizing these anomalies are clinically relevant as they can mimic symptoms of coronary artery disease, and sporadic cases of sudden death have been described in these patients.

Method: This report describes a 55-year-old patient with left main disease and an anomalous left anterior descending artery arising from anterior coronary sinus who presented with palpitations.

Takayasu's arteritis mimicking acute aortic dissection.

A 17-year-old girl presented with a history of dyspnea on exertion and fever of 1-week duration. She was evaluated elsewhere with transesophageal echocardiography and helical computed tomographic scan, and she had been diagnosed with an acute type I dissection of the aorta. She had also been diagnosed with severe aortic regurgitation and a suspected aortic root abscess.
