Abnormal β-amyloid (Aβ) accumulation in the brain is an early indicator of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and is typically assessed through invasive procedures such as PET (positron emission tomography) or CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) assays. As new anti-Alzheimer's treatments can now successfully target amyloid pathology, there is a growing interest in predicting Aβ positivity (Aβ+) from less invasive, more widely available types of brain scans, such as T1-weighted (T1w) MRI. Here we compare multiple approaches to infer Aβ + from standard anatomical MRI: (1) classical machine learning algorithms, including logistic regression, XGBoost, and shallow artificial neural networks, (2) deep learning models based on 2D and 3D convolutional neural networks (CNNs), (3) a hybrid ANN-CNN, combining the strengths of shallow and deep neural networks, (4) transfer learning models based on CNNs, and (5) 3D Vision Transformers.

Orb2 the Drosophila homolog of cytoplasmic polyadenylation element binding (CPEB) protein forms prion-like oligomers. These oligomers consist of Orb2A and Orb2B isoforms and their formation is dependent on the oligomerization of the Orb2A isoform. Drosophila with a mutation diminishing Orb2A's prion-like oligomerization forms long-term memory but fails to maintain it over time.

The advent of drug resistance in response to epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)- tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) targeted therapy represents a serious challenge in the management of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). These acquired resistance mutations, attributed to several advanced EGFR mutations and, necessitated the development of new-generation TKIs. Nanomedicine approaches provide a plausible way to address these problems by providing targeted delivery and sustained release, which have demonstrated success in preclinical trials.

Flavonols are structurally and functionally diverse biomolecules involved in plant biotic and abiotic stress tolerance, pollen development, and inhibition of auxin transport. However, their effects on global gene expression and signaling pathways are unclear. To explore the roles of flavonol metabolites in signaling, we performed comparative transcriptome and targeted metabolite profiling of seedlings from the flavonol-deficient Arabidopsis loss-of-function mutant flavonol synthase1 (fls1) with and without exogenous supplementation of flavonol derivatives (kaempferol, quercetin, and rutin).

The endothelium contains morphologically similar cells throughout the vasculature, but individual cells along the length of a single vascular tree or in different regional circulations function dissimilarly. When observations made in large arteries are extrapolated to explain the function of endothelial cells (ECs) in the resistance vasculature, only a fraction of these observations are consistent between artery sizes. To what extent endothelial (EC) and vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) from different arteriolar segments of the same tissue differ phenotypically at the single-cell level remains unknown.

Identifying thermodynamically favorable and stable non-stoichiometric metal oxides is of crucial importance for solar thermochemical (STC) fuel production via two-step redox cycles. The performance of a non-stoichiometric metal oxide depends on its thermodynamic properties, oxygen exchange capacity, and its phase stability under high-temperature redox cycling conditions. Perovskite oxides (ABO) are being considered as attractive alternatives to the state-of-the-art ceria (CeO) due to their high thermodynamic and structural tunability.
