Article Synopsis
  • Candida tropicalis is a yeast that can cause infections and is increasingly resistant to the antifungal drug fluconazole, posing challenges for medical treatment.* -
  • A study analyzed 256 clinical C. tropicalis isolates from four hospitals in Hefei, identifying genetic profiles and examining the link between resistance and genetic types.* -
  • The findings revealed that a specific clonal complex (CC1) accounted for the majority of fluconazole-resistant isolates, suggesting a strong relationship between genetic types and antifungal resistance.*

Purpose: Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) infection has become a concerning threat, especially in hospital settings; however, its phenotypic characterization, association with rectal colonization and subsequent bloodstream infections (BSI) remain to be clarified. This study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors of CRE infection in rectal CRE carriers and to understand the clonality of carbapenem-resistant (CRKP) strains and their association with subsequent BSI in these patients.

Patients And Methods: This was a prospectively designed cohort study.

Background: bloodstream infection (BSI), the fourth most common nosocomial BSI, is an urgent global health challenge with the tremendous growth in antifungal resistance rate and mortality rate.

Purpose: To establish the epidemiology, species distribution, risk factors, and 30-day mortality of candidaemia among 115 patients in this 6-year surveillance study.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical characteristics, epidemiology, antifungal susceptibility patterns, and risk factors for morbidity and mortality of 115 candidaemia cases diagnosed in one tertiary care hospital from January 2016 through December 2021.

Gilbert syndrome (GS) is a hereditary unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia that results from mutations in the bilirubin uridine diphosphate-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT1A1) gene. To the best of our knowledge, there are currently no reports that focus on patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) coexisting with GS. The present study aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics and genotype of UGT1A1 in a Chinese patient with SLE and GS.

: To evaluate analytic and clinical performance of plasma thrombin-antithrombin complex (TAT) and D-dimer assay in assessing the severity and outcome of acute ischemic stroke. The prospective study was conducted and extended from January 2018 to December 2018. A total of 236 patients admitted within 24 h after neurologic symptoms onset were recruited.

Acquired hemophilia A (AHA) is a rare disease resulting from autoantibodies against coagulation factor VIII that leads to spontaneous bleeding. This study reports the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of a relatively sizable cohort of patients with AHA. We retrospectively analyzed the characteristics and outcomes of 42 patients with AHA diagnosed in our center from January 2014 through December 2018.

The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the analytical and practical performance of MALDI-TOF MS for the identification of clinical uncommon or difficult-to-identify bacteria. A total of 180 clinical isolates collected from January 2014 to December 2016, were identified by MALDI-TOF MS and Vitek2 Compact using 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis as the gold method. For MALDI-TOF MS, 152(84.
