Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of three embolic agents—gelatin sponge, embospheres, and PVA—in partial splenic embolization for patients with hypersplenism due to cirrhosis, analyzing outcomes over one year.
  • All groups achieved a 100% technical success rate, but the gelatin sponge group had lower pain rates compared to the other two.
  • Permanent embolic materials showed better laboratory and radiological results than the gelatin sponge, although they were linked to increased abdominal pain and higher rates of recurrent bleeding in the gelatin sponge group.
