The effect of lacosamide on calcitonin gene-related peptide serum level in episodic migraine patients: a randomized, controlled trial.

Background: Migraine affects 11-15% of people worldwide, and the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is released during the migraine attack, producing pulsating pain of migraine. Also, lacosamide reacts with collapsin-response mediator protein 2, preventing its phosphorylation and leading to the inhibition of CGRP release in the trigeminal system.

Objective: The primary outcome was the difference in the serum level of CGRP-LI after three months of treatment with either lacosamide and ibuprofen or ibuprofen alone in episodic migraine patients.

Primary hepatic rhabdomyosarcoma is an exceedingly rare type of sarcomas. A 15-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital with abdominal pain. Serial investigation showed a giant heterogeneous mass, with a diameter of 15 cm, located in the right lobe of the liver (segment 4a, 4b, 5, 6, 7, 8), with clear margins, non-homogeneous density in computerized tomography and the Positron Emission Tomography Scan Multi Slice revealed a peripherally slightly metabolically active hepatic mass (205 × 134 × 208 mm).

Methods: In this cross-sectional study conducted with 2,517 adolescents in Amazonas State, participants were asked about their self-rated health with the following question: How do you rate your health? Responses were dichotomized into positive (excellent and good) and negative (regular, bad, and terrible). Information on sex, age group, family income, physical activity, and screen time (watching TV, using a computer, or playing video games) was collected through a self-administered questionnaire.

We previously reported that synthetic oleoyl chalcones had a favorable effect to alleviate metabolic consequences of obesity in male SD rats. In this work, we prepared and characterized by spectroscopic tools, a set of six oleoyl chalcones (5a-c, 10 and 11a,b). The comparative effects of the previously prepared oleoyl chalcones and their new synthetic analogs on metabolic and histological changes in obese male SD rats were studied.

The SCHOLAR-5 study examines treatment patterns and outcomes of real-world follicular lymphoma (FL) patients on 3rd line of treatment (LoT) or higher, for whom existing data are limited. SCHOLAR-5 is a retrospective cohort study using data from adults (≥ 18 years) with grade 1-3a FL, initiating ≥3rd LoT after June 2014 at major lymphoma centers in the US and Europe. Objective response rate (ORR), complete response (CR), progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed by LoT.

Case Presentation: This case-series represents our center experience in managing TRAS using percutaneous transluminal angioplasty [either balloon angioplasty (PTA) or stent placement (PTAS)] in 11 patients.

Clinical Discussion: All treated patients experienced immediate total recovery of renal function and normalization of arterial blood pressure without any drug or reducing the number of drugs used; no complications related to the intervention were reported.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between plasma ADMA (p-ADMA) level and ED in diabetic subjects with neuropathic foot ulcer (NFU), and the possible predictors of p-ADMA level.

Materials And Methods: 80 diabetic subjects of matched age, sex and BMI were included; 40 with NFU (G1), 20 with peripheral nerve dysfunction (PND) (G2) and 20 without PND (G3), plus 20 matched healthy subjects (G4).

Treatment of Multiple Myeloma With Daratumumab in a Kidney Transplant Patient.

Clinical Features: A middle-aged man with history of kidney transplantation was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (MM); he was treated with cyclophosphamide, bortezomib, and dexamethasone (CyBorD) for induction therapy. However, a repeat bone marrow biopsy after treatment revealed 10% clonal plasma cell involvement. Given residual disease, his treatment regimen was changed to daratumumab, bortezomib, and dexamethasone in an attempt to achieve minimal residual disease.
