Article Synopsis
  • Identifying biomarkers like retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4) may enable early detection of muscle loss and aid in developing new therapies, particularly for postmenopausal women.
  • The study followed postmenopausal women for 12 months to assess the relationship between initial RBP4 levels and changes in appendicular lean mass (ALM), where higher baseline RBP4 was correlated with greater muscle loss.
  • Results indicated that women with higher RBP4 levels experienced a more significant reduction in muscle mass, suggesting that RBP4 could serve as a useful biomarker for monitoring muscle health in this demographic.

Article Synopsis
  • Oncoplastic surgery (OS) aims to enhance the aesthetic results of breast-conserving surgery (BCS), but there is limited research on what causes unsatisfactory cosmetic outcomes in patients.
  • A study evaluated 300 patients who underwent breast surgery, analyzing both self-evaluations and photographic assessments of cosmetic results, focusing on various factors such as age, BMI, tumor size, and surgical specimen weight.
  • Results showed that younger patients, those with larger tumors, and specific patient characteristics were more likely to report unsatisfactory cosmetic outcomes, highlighting the need for better considerations in surgical planning.

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) serovars are considered a significant threat to veterinary and public health. Developing new antimicrobial compounds that can treat the infection caused by these notorious pathogens is a big challenge. Bacteriophages can be adsorbed on and inhibit the growth of bacteria, providing optimal and promising alternatives to chemical antimicrobial compounds against foodborne pathogens due to their abundance in nature and high host specificity.

Frailty, in elderly people, represents multiple deficiencies in different organs and is characterized by decreased physiological reserves and greater vulnerability to stressors. Bedridden elderly, with cardiovascular disease (CVD), have a worse prognosis than non-bedridden patients. Heat-shock proteins (HSPs) are molecular chaperones that under physiological conditions facilitate the transport, folding and assembly of proteins.
