Introduction: Low-grade tumors account for approximately 50% of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) with recurrence rates between 46% and 62%. Management of NMIBC recurrence typically involves transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) under general or regional anesthesia, which carries perioperative risks and considerable healthcare costs due to repeated procedures. Therefore, less invasive treatments such as office-based laser ablation, which aim to manage recurrences and reduce inpatient procedures without compromising oncological control, are needed.

Article Synopsis
  • Robotic assisted partial nephrectomy is the preferred treatment for small kidney tumors, but it can lead to rare complications like ureteric stricture, affecting patient wellbeing.
  • Surgical options for severe stricture may not be suitable for high-risk patients, who may require alternatives like a ureteric double J stent or nephrostomy tube.
  • A case study showed that when conventional surgery isn't possible due to tumor proximity, using a metallic ureteral stent (Memokath) provides better durability and improves the quality of life compared to double stents for managing ureteric strictures.

Article Synopsis
  • * In the reported case, a 35-year-old infertile man has synchronous testicular tumors, meaning both tumors are present at the same time, but with different histological characteristics, which is exceedingly rare.
  • * This situation emphasizes the complexities of diagnosing and treating such atypical cases and underscores the importance of considering life quality factors like fertility preservation during oncological treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • Testicular Large cell calcifying Sertoli cell tumors (LCCSTs) are rare tumors that mainly affect young males and can present as multiple growths on both testicles.
  • Diagnosing benign LCCSTs is critical to avoid unnecessary surgeries and to protect the patient's ability to have children, relying on patient history, lab tests, and imaging.
  • A case study is presented where a young male with bilateral benign LCCSTs was treated using a method that preserved testicular function, highlighting key clinical, radiological, and pathological traits.

The use of cryoablation in the management of small renal masses is widely acceptable. Although rare but ureteral injury during the procedure with subsequent stricture formation can result in devastating effects on renal function. On the other hand, the management of such strictures requires reconstructive surgery as gold standard.

Amyloidosis is related to the extracellular deposition of abnormal protein fibrils in various tissues. It can be either localized to an organ or generalized, affecting multiple systems. Amyloidosis of the urinary bladder is a rare histopathological finding.

Objective: To investigate the role of an abnormal prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level and abnormal findings on a digital rectal examination (DRE) in the detection of prostate cancer in men in Qatar.

Patients And Methods: Between June 2008 and September 2012, 651 patients had a transrectal ultrasonography-guided biopsy of the prostate (TRUSBP) at our centre. The indications for a biopsy were a high PSA level (>4 ng/mL), or an abnormal DRE result.

Objectives: To compare the frequency of infection after transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS)-guided biopsy of the prostate (TRUSBP) using prophylactic ciprofloxacin with or without adding cefuroxime.

Patients And Methods: Between June 2008 and October 2009, 205 consecutive patients had TRUSBP with the use of oral 500 mg ciprofloxacin twice per day, 2 days before and 3 days after the biopsy (defined as group A). Starting from November 2009 and onwards, 250 consecutive patients had TRUSBP using the same previous protocol of antibiotic prophylaxis but with the addition of intravenous 1.

Background: Photoselective vaporization (PVP) with the GreenLight HPS 120-W laser (GLL) was recently introduced for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Objective: To compare results of GLL PVP and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) for treatment of BPH.

Design, Setting, And Participants: A total of 120 patients with BPH were randomly assigned to two equal groups: TURP or PVP.

The aim of this study was to determine the rate of complications in percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) and nephrolithotomy (PCNL) performed through the 11th and 10th intercostal spaces using our monitoring technique and to discuss the safety of the procedure. Out of 398 PCNs and PCNLs carried out during a 3-year period, 56 patients had 57 such procedures performed using an intercostal approach. The 11th intercostal route was used in 42 and the 10th in 15 cases.
