Supernumerary teeth or hyperdontia are defined as the teeth that exceeds the normal dental formula, regardless of their location and morphology. A supernumerary tooth is a developmental anomaly and it has been argued to arise from multiple aetiologies. Supernumerary teeth with orthodox shapes and sizes, that resemble the normal dentition are called 'supplemental teeth'.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors are rare lesions of uncertain etiology that are often difficult to diagnose because of their myriad clinical presentations. Not uncommon, they mimic persistent pneumonia. We report a 4-year-old girl who presented with prolonged pyrexia, weight loss, severe anemia, hepatosplenomegaly, and nonresolving pneumonia.

A 51-year-old woman with diabetes, who immigrated to the USA 22 years ago from Laos, was admitted to the hospital for evaluation of fever, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea. A workup for acute gastroenteritis revealed a positive stool PCR for Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli. Two sets of blood cultures drawn at admission were positive for E coli.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare color stability and surface topography of three different feldspathic porcelains both qualitatively and quantitatively after exposure to routinely consumed beverages over different time periods using a Spectrophotometer, Stereomicroscope and Surface roughness tester, respectively.

Materials And Methods: A total of 90 plastic discs were casted to obtain metal dies for three different newer ceramic applications each on thirty samples. The color and surface roughness of these samples were measured using stereomicroscope and surface roughness tester following which they were kept in different test solutions for different durations and revaluated for color changes and surface roughness in the similar manner.

Background: Combined heart-liver transplantation (CHLT) has been utilized as a life-saving procedure in those with end-stage cardiac and hepatic pathology. Techniques and outcomes of this procedure are varied. We sought to review the Cleveland Clinic experience with CHLT.

Objectives: The study assessed the appropriateness of coronary revascularization in Ontario, Canada, and examined its association with longer-term outcomes.

Background: Although appropriate use criteria for coronary revascularization have been developed to improve the rational use of cardiac invasive procedures, it is unknown whether greater adherence to appropriateness guidelines is associated with improved clinical outcomes in stable coronary artery disease.

Methods: A population-based cohort of stable patients undergoing cardiac catheterization was assembled from April 1, 2006, to March 31, 2007.

Hypoglossia is a rare entity which is reported sporadically. Hypoglossia has often occurred in an association with limb anomalies and, therefore, these cases have been grouped together as hypoglossia-hypodactylia within oromandibular limb hypogenesis syndromes. The literature on this condition is reviewed, and a case of hypoglossia has also been presented.

Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the vertical root fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth obturated with - Tubli-Seal EWT/Gutta-percha, AH Plus/Gutta-percha, Epiphany SE sealer/Epiphany point.

Study Design: Sixty-five single rooted premolars were decoronated and root length was 14 mm for each specimen. Fifty five teeth were enlarged up to ISO size 40 master apical file with stainless steel K-files using standardized preparation and remaining ten teeth were served as negative control.

An 11-year-old girl presented with Plasmodium vivax malaria complicated by shock and acute renal failure. The diagnosis of malaria was based on demonstration of trophozoites of P. vivax in the peripheral blood smear and a positive rapid malarial antigen test for P.

Purpose: To describe the corticosteroid-sparing success in controlling chronic uveitis in patients treated with TNFα inhibitors.

Methods: Retrospective longitudinal case series of patients started on infliximab (n = 31) or adalimumab (n = 12) for chronic noninfectious uveitis at a tertiary referral center. The main outcome was corticosteroid-sparing success.

Background: The Motivation Crowding-out Theory suggests that incentives undermine intrinsic motivation and thus blood donation behavior. While there is strong evidence showing the negative relationship between monetary incentives and blood donation, findings on the effect of nonmonetary incentives are mixed. Set in a voluntary, nonremunerated environment, this study explores aspects of the nonmonetary incentive-blood donation relationship not captured by the crowding-out hypothesis.

A 78-year-old man presented with dyspnea and mild heart failure with Cheyne-Stokes respiration (CSR). Workup revealed inferolateral ischemia in the setting of significant triple vessel coronary disease, and nil else to adequately explain his dyspnea and eventual respiratory failure. After he underwent surgical revascularization, his ventricular function improved, leading to resolution of his respiratory failure and, of interest, his CSR.

Background: The mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of cerebral malaria (CM) syndrome are not well understood. Previous studies have shown a strong association of inflammatory chemokines, apoptotic markers and angiogenic molecules with CM associated mortality. Recognizing the importance of angiopoietins (ANG) in the pathogenesis of CM, a retrospective investigation was carried out in a hospital cohort of malaria patients with Plasmodium infection in central India to determine if these factors could be suitable markers of CM associated severity.
