Introduction Many studies have supported inflammation as a mediator of lipoprotein (a) (Lp(a)) induced increase in cardiovascular disease risk, as it has pro-inflammatory effects on endothelial cells and monocytes. Aim This study aims to correlate Lp(a) level with different monocyte subsets in coronary atherosclerotic patients with different severity. Method The study included 60 patients with a mean age of 53.

Background: Anaemia is a common presenting feature among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and associated with poor clinical outcomes. We evaluated the diagnostic validity of growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15) and hepcidin as it is not clear if they are useful as a biomarkers of anaemia among non-dialysis CKD egyptian patients.

Method: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted among non-dialysis CKD patients (n = 60) and apparently healthy controls (n = 28) at Minia University maternity & children Hospital.

Data for predicting the severity and mortality of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are limited, and investigations are ongoing. Endothelial monocyte-activating protein II (EMAP-II) is a multifunctional polypeptide with pro-inflammatory properties. EMAP-II is a significant pathogenic component in chronic inflammatory lung diseases and lung injury.

Background: Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is an acquired complex autoimmune thrombocytopenia. Uncontrolled cellular immune response is one of the key triggers for the loss of immune tolerance in ITP patients. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of IL-23/Th17, IL-17A and IL-17A rs2275913 gene polymorphism with ITP in Egyptian children.

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess quality of life (QoL) in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) compared to TACE plus radiofrequency ablation (RFA) done at the same sitting, and to assess tumor therapy response after these 2 palliative interventions.

Methods: 73 patients with unresectable HCC (BCLC-B) were included. Patients with tumor ≤ 5 cm were subjected to TACE (N = 45) while patients with tumors > 5 cm were subjected to TACE followed immediately by RFA (N = 28).

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide. It has been widely established that the early detection of HCC enables more treatment options with improvements in prognosis and survival.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of both circulating miR-215 and squamous cell carcinoma antigen-IgM (SCCA-IgM) as serum biomarkers for HCC by examining their diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and predictive values in hepatitis C virus (HCV)-induced HCC patients.

Dysfunction of the immune system in colorectal cancer (CRC) can be due to a number of reasons including apoptosis of tumour infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs). The aims of this study was to investigate TILs in colorectal cancer and characterize apoptosis of TILs using terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay for detecting DNA fragments. We used monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) to T lymphocytes to detect TILs and double immunohistochemistry to assess apoptosis.

Dysfunction of the immune system in colorectal cancer (CRC) can be due to a number of reasons including apoptosis of tumour infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs). The aims of this study were to characterize, phenotypically, the apoptosis of TILs in CRC, and define the association of these findings with prognostic indicators. We used double immunohistochemistry to assess the apoptosis of T-cell subsets.
