Article Synopsis
  • - This systematic review analyzed 15 studies involving 448 stroke survivors to determine the effectiveness of adding postural insoles to traditional physical therapy on mobility and balance.
  • - Results showed significant improvements in gait velocity, cadence, stride length, and weight-bearing symmetry when using insoles, although there was no significant effect on step length or balance confidence.
  • - Overall, the study suggests that incorporating insoles into rehabilitation can enhance gait and balance outcomes compared to physical therapy alone for stroke patients.

Background: Posterior cervical spine surgery is commonly performed in elderly patients with significant comorbidities and is considered one of the most painful surgical procedures. Accordingly, perioperative pain management during posterior cervical spine surgery represents a unique challenge for anesthesiologists. Inter-semispinal plane block (ISPB) represents a promising analgesic technique for spine surgery through the blockade of the dorsal rami of the cervical spinal nerves.

Background: Appropriate postoperative pain management in shoulder surgeries is the mainstay of rehabilitation therapy and subsequent improved functional outcomes. However, adequate pain control either with opioids or interscalene brachial plexus block is often challenged by their side effects. In this context, this study compared the suprascapular nerve block (SSNB) to the newly emerging erector spinae plane block at the second thoracic vertebral level (high thoracic-ESPB) as an alternative pain therapy.

Background: Intraoperative intracranial pressure (ICP) control continues to be a challenge for anaesthetists during craniotomies. Although many standard brain-dehydrating protocols are available, they may be ineffective in certain surgical situations and may result in harm either to the systemic or cerebral circulation. Sphenopalatine ganglion block (SPGB) can reverse the vasodilatory effects of anaesthesia during craniotomy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Action Observation Therapy for rehabilitating children with Cerebral Palsy through a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
  • Twelve trials involving 307 participants were included, but the meta-analysis showed no significant differences in rehabilitation outcomes between therapy groups.
  • The conclusion drawn was that there is insufficient evidence to support the effectiveness of Action Observation Therapy in this context, largely due to variations among studies and concerns about the quality of the methodologies used.
