Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed ICU mortality and AKI development in obese patients using data from 4,459 patients in Turkey, revealing that obese patients had a higher incidence of AKI compared to normal-weight individuals.
  • Obese patients had a 1.4 times higher risk of developing AKI, required dialysis more frequently, and had longer ICU stays, whereas mortality rates due to AKI were significant in normal-weight and overweight patients but not in obese patients.
  • The findings suggest that while obesity increases the risk of AKI, especially in those with cerebrovascular diseases, it paradoxically does not elevate mortality rates in obese individuals with AKI compared to their normal-weight counterparts.
